With 25% of the work completed, the new concrete road between Mandirituba and São José dos Pinhais promises to revolutionize mobility in Greater Curitiba and connect logistics hubs more efficiently.
The new concrete road that will link Mandirituba to São José dos Pinhais, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, is advancing rapidly and already has 25% of the work completed, according to official information. With an investment of R$ 96.8 million from the Government of Paraná, this is considered one of the most strategic infrastructure projects in the state, with the potential to revolutionize regional mobility, improve agricultural logistics, and connect two of the country’s main highways: BR-116 and BR-376.
The concrete pavement already covers 4 kilometers of the planned 26.61 kilometers, and important sections are already open to traffic, directly benefiting drivers, residents, and rural producers in the region. In addition to the durability of the pavement, the project also includes a bike lane, new lighting, and adjustments in the layout, ensuring greater safety, fluidity, and sustainability in regional transport.
New Concrete Road is Considered a Mobility Axis for Greater Curitiba
The construction of the road meets a long-standing demand — for almost 30 years — for a direct connection between the South of the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba and the Eastern axis, reducing distances and travel times between municipalities that currently depend on congested and poorly distributed routes.

Thailand abandoned plans to cut through the country with a canal and chose a $28 billion mega-project on land: the Southern Landbridge will have 90 km, two giant ports, a railway, a highway, and pipelines to connect two seas and challenge the Strait of Malacca without handing over the strategic route to China.

According to Gilson Santos, president of the Metropolitan Affairs Agency of Paraná (Amep), the project “already transforms the daily life of the region” and represents a fundamental intervention in mobility, connecting strategic highways and promoting advances in agricultural output, cargo and passenger transport, and integration between municipalities.
Besides Mandirituba and São José dos Pinhais, the new road will also have direct impacts on other cities like Quitandinha, Agudos do Sul, Piên, Campo do Tenente, and Rio Negro, which make up the so-called second metropolitan ring of the capital of Paraná.
Concrete Road Advances Rapidly, with Sections Already Opened
So far, two important sections have been opened:
- 780 meters paved on both sides in São José dos Pinhais.
- 1.5 kilometers on the left side of the road heading towards Mandirituba.
In other areas, traffic is operating under the “Stop-and-Go” system, while the works continue with paving, drainage, earthworks, and widening of the road. The construction starts from São José dos Pinhais and progresses towards Mandirituba, with a forecast for complete delivery by August 2026.
The choice of concrete as the paving material represents an important technical advancement. This technology offers greater durability, lower maintenance costs, and better performance under adverse weather conditions, such as those frequently faced in the metropolitan region of Curitiba.
Connection between Mandirituba and São José dos Pinhais Brings Logistical and Urban Impact
The new road creates a direct connection between rural areas and urban hubs, facilitating the transport of agricultural products, the movement of workers, and economic integration between municipalities.
The expectation is that the road will become a new logistical axis for Southern Paraná, relieving heavy traffic on the BRs and redistributing the flow of vehicles.
The inclusion of a 2.5-meter-wide bike lane also highlights the concern for active mobility, benefiting cyclists and local residents who use bicycles as a means of transport. Additionally, the project includes modern lighting, new alignments with safer curves, and better nighttime visibility, reducing the risk of accidents.
Project Combines Development and Preservation of the Historical Heritage of RMC
One of the highlights of the new link is the respect for the historical and cultural heritage of the region. In Colônia Marcelino, in São José dos Pinhais, traditional cobblestone paving will be maintained, which will be integrated into the new road without altering its original appearance.
This integration between modern infrastructure and historical elements is seen as an example of sustainable and inclusive urbanism, valuing local memory while promoting regional development.
Mobility Project in Paraná Represents New Model of Regional Integration
The advancement of the road between Mandirituba and São José dos Pinhais marks a new phase in the metropolitan planning of the capital of Paraná.
The project fits into a broader context of decentralization of traffic, development of alternative logistical axes, and improvement of the quality of life for communities that had previously been isolated from the main routes.
More than a physical connection, the concrete road represents opportunities for urban growth, increased access to services, job creation, and stimulation of rural and historical tourism in the region.
The new concrete road under construction between Mandirituba and São José dos Pinhais is more than an investment in mobility: it is a bet on the future of the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba.
With modern technology, logistical impact, historical appreciation, and social integration, the project already demonstrates practical results, even with only 25% of the work completed.
With a projected completion date by 2026, the project promises to consolidate a new regional development model, more connected, efficient, and sustainable — positioning Paraná as a reference in smart urban infrastructure in Brazil.
