Atlas Agro Presents Fertilizer Factory Project With Green Hydrogen at the Rio + Agro Forum, Highlighting Sustainability and Innovation.
A Atlas Agro, a global fertilizer producer, is drawing attention with its new project at the International Forum for Sustainable Agro-Environmental Development, Rio + Agro. The event highlights Atlas Agro’s innovative project: the construction of the first nitrogen fertilizer factory using green hydrogen in Uberaba, Minas Gerais.
Details of Atlas Agro’s New Factory
This project is a significant investment of R$ 4.3 billion and represents an important milestone for the fertilizer industry in Brazil.
The factory in Uberaba will be the first in the country to produce nitrogen fertilizers with zero carbon emissions, using green hydrogen.

Atlas Agro plans to implement a 100% clean matrix, with renewable sources such as solar and wind energy for the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia.
This approach aims to reduce the carbon footprint by replacing imported fertilizers, which are produced from fossil and polluting sources.
The new plant in Uberaba will have a production capacity of 500 thousand tons per year and will avoid the emission of over 1 million tons of carbon equivalent annually.
This significant reduction in carbon emissions is one of Atlas Agro’s main goals, which aims to promote the decarbonization of the fertilizer industry in Brazil.
The project for the new factory is also a response to the country’s high dependence on imported fertilizers, which currently represent over 90% of the national market.
Atlas Agro’s Participation in the Rio + Agro Forum
During the Rio + Agro Forum, Atlas Agro’s Operations Director, Rodrigo Santana, participated in two important panels.
In his presentations, Santana detailed the project for the new factory and discussed the sustainable development potential of Brazilian agribusiness.
He highlighted how the construction of the factory aligns with the green neo-industrialization process and how Atlas Agro intends to become a reference in the decarbonization of the fertilizer industry in the country.
“The new project is a crucial step to replace imported fertilizers, which have a significant carbon footprint, with sustainable domestic production. Moreover, it offers a great opportunity for green reindustrialization and to enhance food security in Brazil,” Santana stated.
Event Organization
The Rio + Agro Forum is organized by the Brazilian Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil), in collaboration with the Ministries of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Agriculture and Livestock, and with the Secretary of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Services of the state government of Rio de Janeiro.
The event aims to attract investments to the country, focusing on energy transition and sustainable fertilizer production.
Atlas Agro’s project is a significant step towards sustainability in the fertilizer industry.
Atlas Agro’s new factory in Uberaba represents an important change in the sector, offering a clean and domestic alternative to imported fertilizers.
