Motorola Announces Moto G96 with 50 MP Camera and Powerful Battery, but Disappoints in Updates.
Motorola unveiled its latest mid-range smartphone on Thursday (3), in India: the Moto G96. The model comes with interesting specifications, such as 50 MP camera, long-lasting battery, and high refresh rate display, but raises questions about its longevity due to limited Android update support.
The device’s international debut has not yet had an official price disclosed, but there is anticipation that it will arrive in Brazil soon.

Built in 1773 by two rival British inventors, the mechanical Silver Swan still works perfectly 253 years later inside the Bowes Museum, in the English county of Durham, without any electric motor, powered only by clock springs wound once a day, and Mark Twain described it in Paris in 1867 as a creature with lively eyes.
However, the decision to offer only one update of the Android operating system may negatively impact the buying decision of consumers more concerned with the device’s longevity.
Immersive Display and Reliable Performance
The Moto G96 is equipped with a 6.67-inch pOLED display, with Full HD+ resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate.
The brightness reaches up to 1,600 nits with HDR support, ensuring good visibility even in outdoor environments and excellent fluidity for videos and games.
In terms of performance, the model boasts the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, the same found in the Edge 50 Fusion.
It comes with 8 GB of RAM and options for either 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage — without the possibility of expansion via microSD card.
Cameras That Impress for the Category
One of the major attractions of the Motorola Moto G96 is its camera setup. The main sensor is the Sony Lytia 700C, with 50 MP resolution and an f/1.8 aperture, capable of capturing good images even in low-light conditions. There is also an 8 MP ultrawide lens with macro function.
On the front, the 32 MP camera records in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, making it an excellent option for high-quality video calls and selfies.
Long-lasting Battery with Fast Charging
The 5,500 mAh battery of the Moto G96 is one of its strongest points. According to Motorola, it can last up to 42 hours of music playback, as well as feature 33W fast charging, ensuring convenience in day-to-day use.
Limited Updates: A Concern
Despite the technical highlights, Motorola confirmed that the Moto G96 will receive only one Android system update. Since the device already ships with Android 15, this means it will be updated only up to Android 16. Conversely, security update support will be maintained for three years.
This update policy has drawn criticism from users and experts, especially considering that other competitors in the mid-range market already offer broader support.
Availability of Motorola Moto G96 in Brazil
For now, the Motorola Moto G96 is available only in India, in blue, pink, green, and navy blue — all with Pantone validation.
Although the official price has not been disclosed yet, it is likely that Motorola will bring the model to other markets, including Brazil, in the coming months.
With a good balance between features and cost-effectiveness, the Moto G96 could attract an audience looking for a mid-range device with solid performance and powerful cameras, as long as the limitation on updates isn’t a dealbreaker.

Uma única atualização de Android? Fria!
