Charter Agreement Between Petrobras and NFE Shows Commitment of Both Companies to Provide Efficient Energy Solutions in the Brazilian Market
New Fortress Energy (NFE), an American energy company, took a significant step by signing a charter agreement with the Brazilian state oil and gas giant, Petrobras. The agreement is for the use of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Winter, marking a strategic partnership between the two companies, according to the offshore energy website.
The charter agreement for the FSRU Energos Winter with Petrobras is an important milestone in the oil and gas industry. Petrobras is one of the major players in the oil and gas sector and its partnership with NFE demonstrates confidence in the growth potential and expertise of the American company. NFE is known for its innovation and commitment to sustainable energy, which makes this collaboration even more significant.
Energy Expansion in Brazil: Gas Sul Terminal and the Importance of the Agreement with Petrobras
The FSRU Energos Winter will be deployed at the Gas Sul Terminal (TGS), located in Santa Catarina, Brazil. The TGS is NFE’s latest LNG import terminal in the country and has a schedule for operations that begins ahead of schedule, already in January 2024. This is a clear sign of NFE’s commitment to providing effective and efficient energy solutions in the Brazilian market.

Germany and Denmark will transform Bornholm into a Baltic power island, connecting 3 GW of offshore wind power to the grids of the two countries via submarine cables and turning a real island into an international energy hub.
The general director of NFE, André Dete, highlighted the importance of this contract, stating: “We are extremely pleased to reach this agreement with Petrobras and begin operations at the TGS terminal in Santa Catarina, Brazil, ahead of schedule in January 2024. The TGS terminal is a unique high-growth opportunity for NFE, as the connection with the pipeline system in southern Brazil offers a diverse and short-term set of opportunities in energy and gas supply.”
Strengthening Energy Infrastructure in Latin America
In addition to this contract with Petrobras, NFE has made significant efforts in the LNG market. In September 2023, the company sent the liquefaction platform Pioneer II to Altamira, Mexico, to join the Pioneer I and Pioneer III platforms. This move marks the completion of the platforms for its Fast LNG 1 Unit.
It is important to note that NFE is collaborating with other state-owned companies in the oil and gas sector beyond Petrobras, such as the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), a Mexican state-owned company, to create an FLNG hub off the coast of Altamira. According to the signed contracts, NFE will deploy several FLNG units, each with a capacity of 1.4 MTPA. These units will utilize CFE’s existing firm pipeline transport capacity in the Texas-Tuxpan Pipeline by TC Energy to supply feed gas volumes to NFE.
Growing Demand for Sustainable Energy Sources
The partnership and contract between NFE and CFE highlight the commitment of both companies to strengthen energy infrastructure in Latin America. With the growing demand for cleaner and more efficient energy sources, this collaboration will play a crucial role in expanding energy capacity in the region.
In summary, the charter agreement for the FSRU Energos Winter with Petrobras is an important step for NFE and represents a new era of collaboration in the oil and gas sector. NFE is positioned to play a significant role in expanding energy infrastructure, not only in Brazil but throughout Latin America. This strengthens the company’s position as a leader in the pursuit of sustainable and effective energy sources.
