Millionaire Investment, Job Creation on a Large Scale and the Promise of Transforming a Small Town into a Commercial and Leisure Reference Attract Attention to a Megaproject That Is in the Final Construction Phase and Already Has an Opening Date.
Lavras, in Southern Minas, is about to become a new commercial and leisure hub with the opening of Shopping Cidade da Serra, a R$ 125 million venture that promises to boost the regional economy and create over 1,500 jobs.
With an opening scheduled for the second half of 2025, the new shopping center will feature over 130 stores, a food court, a cinema complex, and service areas, establishing itself as one of the largest recent private investments in the city.
Located on the banks of BR-265, the shopping center bets on its strategic location to attract consumers not only from Lavras but also from around 20 surrounding cities.

Lavras Becomes a Retail Showcase in Southern Minas
Known for its educational relevance and home to the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), the city now expands its role in the regional economic scenario.
The choice of Lavras was based on market studies that identified its direct influence on an estimated population of over 320,000 people.
The dynamism of the service sector, combined with the presence of thousands of students and professionals coming from other regions, strengthens the local consumption potential.
“A shopping center goes far beyond shopping: it represents leisure, tourism, and socializing,” explains marketing and entrepreneurship professor Paulo Henrique Leme.
According to him, the new venture arrives at a time of significant visitor flow to the city on weekends, further enhancing the appeal of the shopping center.
Modern Structure and Accelerated Works
Shopping Cidade da Serra occupies an area of 18,000 square meters, housing anchor stores, large retail chains, supermarkets, food franchises, and local businesses.
According to businessman Felipe Lasmar Pereira, co-owner of the project, the infrastructure works have already been completed and 75% of the shopping center is done.
The efforts are now focused on finishing touches, such as plumbing, electrical systems, and cladding.
The expectation is that the center will serve a public as significant as that of shopping centers in cities like Varginha and Pouso Alegre, becoming a reference in Southern Minas for comfort, security, and service diversity.
Jobs and Boosted Economy
Besides the urban transformation and the expansion of leisure options, Shopping Cidade da Serra will be a job-generating engine.
It is estimated that around 1,500 direct and indirect jobs will be created with the arrival of the venture, covering sectors such as sales, cleaning, security, administration, maintenance, and food services.
“The impact is significant not only inside the shopping center but also in the city as a whole. Hospitality, bars, and restaurants will also feel this boost,” asserts Leme.
The professor notes that domestic tourism and increased consumption have chain effects, benefiting even small merchants and service providers.
Local Initiatives Gain Space
The new shopping center has also sparked interest among local entrepreneurs who see the structure as an opportunity to expand their businesses.
An example is Fabrício Pereira, a businessman in the gym sector, who decided to open his third unit in the commercial center.
With 1,200 square meters, the new gym will have a sauna, manicure, and integrated beauty salon, betting on a complete experience for clients.
“The idea is for the person to train, relax, and be ready to enjoy the shopping center, all in one place,” explains the businessman.
The estimate is that this new unit alone will generate around 80 jobs.
Other national companies have already confirmed their presence, including food and retail chains, signaling confidence in the region’s potential.
The expectation is that the shopping center will generate between R$ 10 million and R$ 12 million in its first years of operation, establishing itself as a vector for development.
A Mark for the Future of the City
The arrival of Shopping Cidade da Serra represents a turning point for Lavras, as it connects its educational vocation with the strength of modern retail.
With a bold project and strategic location, the venture aligns with contemporary consumption trends, offering a new value proposition for residents and tourists.
More than just a shopping space, the new center will be a meeting point, socializing, and opportunities.
The city, which already stands out in the Minas Gerais scenario for its educational performance, now gains another anchor for development.
As the inauguration approaches, the expectation is that the venture will become a symbol of progress, dynamism, and quality of life.
Residents, students, and visitors will have access to a complete environment where it will be possible to study, work, enjoy, and shop comfortably.
The urban transformation that Lavras is experiencing with Shopping Cidade da Serra also raises an important debate: how to balance economic growth with urban sustainability and the preservation of traditional commerce?
This will be a relevant agenda in the coming years, especially in light of the rapid expansion of shopping centers in medium-sized cities in Brazil.
