Renault is preparing a new unprecedented medium SUV in Brazil for 2025. The new Renault SUV will debut the automaker’s flex hybrid technology in the country and will compete with the Corolla Cross and Compass. The new medium SUV from Renault will not be the Brigster, the main launch from Dacia, Renault’s Romanian brand, at the Paris Motor Show in 2024.

The future rival of the Corolla Cross and Compass will have the same base as the new Dacia model. This is because it will use the modular platform from the Renault Group, which has become standard and arrived in Brazil with the Kardian. However, the new national SUV will have the style of the French brand’s European models.
The new Renault SUV, referred to as C-SUV, is expected to inherit features from the Renault Rafale, the current medium SUV available in gasoline hybrid versions.

The new medium SUV from Renault has a modern setup that combines a small 1.2 turbo three-cylinder engine with one or two electric motors and a battery. It is worth noting that the name Rafale came from the homonymous racing plane created by Caudron, a French aircraft manufacturer, in 1934. The model, a single-engine, was equipped with a supercharged Renault engine with six cylinders. The SUV-coupé has half the cylinders and an electrified setup.
Rival Corolla Cross And Compass Will Use Unprecedented Technology
In the E-Tech Full Hybrid version of the new Renault SUV, the gasoline and electric motors are at the front and the traction is front-wheel drive. There are 200 horsepower and a maximum torque of 20.9 kgfm. The range is similar to that of Chinese plug-in hybrid SUVs available in the Brazilian market, reaching up to 1,100 km in the global WLTP cycle.
The E-Tech Plug-in Hybrid version has a second electric motor on the rear axle, providing all-wheel drive. The setup delivers 300 horsepower and 23.4 kgfm of maximum torque. It also features a 22 kWh battery, which provides a range of 100 km in 100% electric mode when fully charged.
For the Brazilian market, it is most likely that the new medium SUV from Renault will feature a local technology. Thus, the future model is expected to debut the 48-volt mild hybrid flex system, which should be based on the current mechanical setup of the Kardian, that is, a 1.0 turboflex engine with 125 horsepower and 22.4 kgfm of torque with ethanol, and an oil-bathed dual-clutch automated transmission with front-wheel drive.
Renault Also Announces The Arrival Of A New Pickup
In addition to this new SUV from Renault, rival of the Corolla Cross and Compass, the brand confirmed the launch of a new intermediate pickup for 2026, replacing the current Oroch.
The company will invest US$ 350 million in the new pickup, equivalent to R$ 1.9 billion, at the factory in Santa Isabel, located in Córdoba, Argentina, where the model will be produced exclusively for the automotive market in Latin America.
It is expected to produce around 65,000 units per year, with 70% of that production being exported, with Brazil being the main destination for the new Renault pickup.
This new model will be based on the Niagara concept, revealed by the French brand earlier and will likely keep the same name in its production version. In addition to the design inspired by the prototype, the new pickup will be built on the RGMP platform, the same used in the Kardian.
