Volkswagen Gol SUV Arrives Soon in the Automotive Market with Innovative Design: First Teaser Revealed and Launch in India Expected in 2025.
Recently, Volkswagen unveiled plans for its newest entry-level SUV, known by the codename Project 246 and informally referred to as VW Gol SUV. Additionally, it was mentioned that this launch will be accompanied by a sibling model from Skoda, both part of a project to introduce two low-cost SUVs based on the Skoda Fabia. The first teaser of the model has already been released, giving a glimpse of what’s to come.
Check Out the Revealed Details of the New Volkswagen Gol SUV
With an arrival expected in 2025, the new Skoda SUV will share the platform and several components with the new VW Gol SUV. Both models will utilize the entire structure of the current Skoda Fabia, as well as the MQB-A platform from Polo, Nivus, Virtus, and T-Cross.
The Indian version may be shortened to maintain a length of 4m and qualify for tax discounts. In the teaser, it’s possible to see that the new cousin of the VW Gol SUV will feature split LED headlights connected to the brand’s typical front grille. The model’s hood has strong and pronounced creases, while the bulging fender provides the necessary robustness of an SUV.

In the Brazilian market, the Volkswagen Gol SUV will have a 1.0 TSI three-cylinder turbo engine, with varying power outputs. In our country, the 128-horsepower version is expected, as well as a 116-hp version, making up two power ranges. In the Indian market, the cousin of the new VW Gol SUV will feature a manual or DSG transmission, while here a six-speed automatic is certain and the manual is still uncertain.
Name of the Volkswagen ‘Gol SUV’ Not Yet Defined
Among the possible names for the model in India, already revealed by Skoda, are Kymaq, Kwiq, Kariq, Kyroq, and Kylaq. It is worth noting that every SUV from the brand starts with the letter K and ends with Q when it is a combustion model. At Volkswagen, the tradition is to use the letter T for every SUV, except for the Nivus in Brazil, as it is called Taigo in Europe.
In Brazil, it has not yet been determined what the name of the 246 will be. Clearly, the new VW Gol SUV will not be the brand’s choice, and the chances of it resurrecting a name from the past are low. If it has a global presence, as expected, it will have a name starting with the letter T.
It is worth noting that the development of the Volkswagen Gol SUV is a closely guarded secret and is being jointly handled by Volkswagen and Skoda. The cooperation will seek solutions to reduce development costs and will take full advantage of the MQB-A00 platform structure. Each brand will have its own version of the model, but some elements may be the same in both cars.
New VW Gol SUV Will Be Produced in SP
In Brazil, we will have the Volkswagen version of this project, and the model is expected to succeed the Gol, and like the Skoda, will have an SUV body.
Production will be focused at the Taubaté (SP) factory and will be made possible by the investment of R$ 16 billion that the brand announced it would apply in Brazil until 2028 to bring 16 launches to market.
When it hits the stores in 2025, the new SUV will be positioned above the Polo Track and below the Nivus, which by that time should already be restyled. Details about the Volkswagen Gol SUV will be presented in the coming months through the Yeh Concept, which will provide information about the design. Another point of interest is that it will be ready for electrification and will also be offered in a hybrid version.
