Strike of 5 Thousand Construction Workers Threatens Schedule of COP 30 in Belem and Pressures Employers to Offer 6% Increase and Basic Basket of R$ 130
Construction and furniture workers in Belem, Ananindeua, and Marituba went on strike this Tuesday (16th), for an indefinite period. According to the Union of Workers in the Construction and Furniture Industries of Belem (STICMB), about 5 thousand workers joined the stoppage.
The affected works include projects in the hotel sector, Vila COP 30 — where heads of state are expected to stay — and Parque da Cidade, a space that will host negotiations among the countries during the event.
Despite the stoppage, the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop) stated that “the works for COP 30 are proceeding normally, within the scheduled timeline.”

Workers Reject Previous Proposal and Demand Progress
Among the demands of the category are a higher salary increase, improvements in working conditions, promotions for women in the field, and the payment of Profit Sharing (PLR) in two installments of R$ 378.
The strike began after workers rejected the initial employer proposal, which offered a 5.5% increase and an increase of only R$ 10 in the value of the basic basket, going from R$ 110 to R$ 120.
The workers considered the indices insufficient, especially considering the amount calculated by Dieese, which indicates a cost of R$ 687.30 for the basic basket in Belem.
Sinduscon-PA Presents New Proposal to End the Strike
In a public statement released this Wednesday (17th), the Construction Industry Union of the State of Pará (Sinduscon-PA) updated its proposal.
The entity now offers 6% salary increase and increase in the basic basket allowance to R$ 130, which represents a growth of 19% over the current value of R$ 110.
According to Sinduscon-PA, the new indices exceed the accumulated inflation of the last 12 months, measured by INPC at 5.13%, and provide a real gain for workers.
The entity stated that the new proposal demonstrates the sector’s effort to ensure real gains for the category, considering the current economic scenario.
