Ocyan Shines in the Reduction and Compensation of CO2 Emissions, Reaching the Remarkable Mark of 67.5 Tons in 2022, Which Translates to 1,591 MWh.
Ocyan, a prominent player in the oil and gas market, recently celebrated a milestone in its sustainability journey. The company earned the respected “Carbon Neutral” seal, highlighting its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and environmental responsibility. This recognition came after Ocyan tirelessly dedicated itself to offsetting 100% of the emissions resulting from its operations and energy consumption.
Strategic Partnership and Emission Compensation
Working in collaboration with Carbonext, Ocyan conducted meticulous mapping and offset the emissions related to the year 2022. But how was this possible? “The strategy involved reducing 100% of the emissions associated with electricity consumption in the previous year by acquiring green electricity from renewable energy plants, specifically wind, certified by I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate). This initiative, both in purchasing and usage, culminated in the reduction of Ocyan’s CO2 emissions by approximately 67.5 tons, equivalent to 1,591 MWh. The compensation aims, above all, to reduce the environmental impact of all our activities,” emphasizes Marcelo Mafra, Vice President of Sustainability at Ocyan.
Carbon Credits and Future Goals
But the company did not stop there. Another impressive achievement was the acquisition of carbon credits as a means of additional compensation. For each credit obtained, Ocyan was able to offset one ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the environment. In total, 7,828 carbon credits were acquired, allowing the company to mitigate impacts equivalent to 7,828 tons of CO2. This action represents a reduction of 20% in emissions compared to the baseline year of 2021, a period in which Ocyan established this lifelong commitment.

With these laudable efforts, Ocyan not only reaffirms its leadership role in the oil and gas sector but also demonstrates that it is possible for large companies to adopt sustainable practices and make a positive difference in the world. It serves as an inspiration for other corporations to follow suit and take effective measures to combat climate change.
