Understand How Paraná Receives Investments in Natural Gas That Drive the Sustainable and Regional Economic Development of the State.
Since the 1990s, Paraná has been establishing itself as one of the most strategic regions in Brazil. Over time, the state has gathered a robust energy infrastructure, consistent economic growth, and a clear vocation for innovation.
Because of this solid foundation, many companies have shown interest in investing in Paraná. After all, the combination of a privileged location, skilled labor, and a diverse consumer market has become extremely attractive.
In addition, efficient urban planning, combined with public policies aimed at sustainable development, has directly contributed to the security of investors.

Petrobrás breaks historical record and produces 3.23 million barrels per day in early 2026, driven by the pre-salt, new platforms, and operational advancements that reinforce its leadership in the energy sector.
As a result, the natural gas sector gained relevance in the state. This happened because piped gas proved to be an efficient, economical, and environmentally responsible solution.
Meanwhile, the need for clean and reliable alternatives has driven the adoption of this energy source, particularly in urban centers.
Thus, Companhia Paranaense de Gás (Compagas) has gained a strategic role in the regional energy transition. Currently, Paraná is receiving significant investments in the natural gas sector, revealing a commitment to energy modernization and expanding access to clean sources.
It is worth noting that this trajectory is not coincidental. It reflects a constant evolution that accompanies Paraná’s own economic transformation. The state, traditionally agricultural, has been diversifying with strong industrial and technological growth, which demands adequate and sustainable energy infrastructure.
Significant Growth in the Number of Customers and Contracts
Between January and June 2025, Compagas connected over 3,500 new customers to its piped gas network. In fact, this number nearly equals all the connections made throughout 2024.
Compared to the same period the previous year, the growth was 272%, increasing from 1,300 to 3,500 units. With this, the company now has a total of 62,000 customers across the state.
As a result, a change in the profile of consumers can be observed. Both families and industries and businesses have adopted natural gas as a viable and safe solution.
At the same time, we see that the efficiency and sustainability of the service strengthen its acceptance in the market.
Furthermore, Compagas signed over 10,000 new contracts in just the first semester. This data demonstrates the company’s strength in capturing new markets.
It is no coincidence that in Curitiba, 70% of new real estate developments already include connection to the gas network, which highlights a growing trend toward modern solutions.
Simultaneously, the company has expanded its infrastructure. Currently, the distribution network exceeds 920 kilometers in 16 municipalities.
By the way, by 2029, R$ 505 million in investments are planned to further expand this network. One of the main projects involves a new pipeline of 52 kilometers between Araucária and Lapa, aimed at serving industrial and logistical areas.
It is important to mention that the expansion of the network not only meets current demand but also prepares the state for future challenges. Compagas’ strategic planning takes into account population growth, industrial advancement, and changes in the national and global energy matrix.
New Concession Boosts Internalization of the Service
Through the new concession contract with the Government of Paraná, signed in July 2024, Compagas has accelerated its operations.
During the first 12 months of the new phase, 7,200 customers were connected, which represents four times more than in the same previous interval.
At the same time, 36 kilometers of network have been installed, with plans to reach 21 municipalities in the coming years.
Moreover, Paraná is receiving significant investments in the interior, expanding access to natural gas in regions that previously depended on fuels like firewood and diesel.
As a consequence, industrial competitiveness increases while local quality of life improves.
In this sense, two municipalities have stood out: Londrina and Maringá, important hubs in northern Paraná.
In Londrina, for example, Compagas plans a 70-kilometer pipeline to supply residential, commercial, industrial, and vehicular sectors.
In addition, the municipality will start using biomethane, further strengthening its commitment to renewable sources.
This movement reflects an effort to integrate renewable energy sources into the state matrix, aligned with global trends of emission reduction and combating climate change.
Diversified Operations and Commitment to Sustainability
Maringá, in turn, also receives significant investments. The city will have 19 kilometers of network, especially aimed at the industrial sector.
As construction is already underway, it is expected that the positive impact on the local economy will occur gradually and consistently.
Currently, Compagas serves more than 180 industries and 840 businesses, including bakeries, gyms, restaurants, and laundries.
Additionally, 33 gas stations and 62,000 residences utilize natural gas, demonstrating the diversity of the profiles served.
Consequently, piped energy is establishing itself as an essential part of the routine for Paraná residents.
Meanwhile, the company reaffirms its commitment to sustainability. One example is the Sustainable Corridors project, which aims to create logistical routes powered by natural gas and biomethane.
Thus, a cleaner, more efficient, and economical transportation is promoted.
It is also important to highlight that the use of biomethane not only reduces pollutant emissions but also adds value to organic waste, encouraging a circular economy and promoting responsible environmental practices.
Reduction of Emissions and Positive Impacts on Society
Currently, these corridors connect Londrina to Paranaguá, in addition to linking Paraná to neighboring states such as São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Santa Catarina.
On these routes, gas-powered trucks already circulate regularly, generating savings for transport companies and reducing environmental impacts.
Additionally, Compagas is investing in projects for urban buses powered by gas and waste collection trucks fueled by biomethane.
These initiatives are part of a circular economy strategy focused on waste reduction and energy reuse.
It is worth noting that natural gas emits about 25% less greenhouse gases than diesel.
On the other hand, biomethane can reduce emissions by up to 87%, which directly contributes to improving air quality and public health in urban areas.
Finally, Paraná is receiving investments that go far beyond physical infrastructure. These resources drive technological innovation, boost the regional economy, strengthen the logistics sector, and support long-term environmental goals.
Therefore, by investing in natural gas and biomethane, Paraná not only diversifies its energy matrix but also strengthens its position as a national reference in sustainable development and energy efficiency.
