Native Women’s Cooperative of Arraial do Cabo Receives Tricycles Through the Fishing Activity Compensation Plan (PCAP)
Women from the artisanal fishing community of Arraial do Cabo received new equipment for the cooperative, supplies for processing fish, and tricycles last Monday (6/20). These actions are part of the Fishing Activity Compensation Plan (PCAP), required by the federal environmental licensing conducted by Ibama, for Petrobras projects in the Campos Basin.
The Native Women’s Cooperative of Arraial do Cabo, located in Praia Grande, has been receiving materials and equipment since September 2021 to process fish and support the group’s routine. The highlight this month is the tricycles: one powered by combustion and the other electric, which can also be charged with solar energy.
“The tricycles will help to increase our clientele because we can sell to other cities as well, keeping the fish fresh in an insulated cargo box. The PPE, such as gloves and disposable aprons, are also making a big difference because we use them a lot,” explains Margareth Julião, a cooperative member who has been in the activity for 45 years, continuing the tradition of several generations of her family.

Plan Aims to Compensate Fishing Communities for Temporary Fishing Restrictions
In the last 10 years, the PCAP has completed various compensations such as: purchasing properties and renovating physical facilities of fishing entities (colonies), constructing an auditorium, acquiring furniture, a radio base for maritime communication, a dredging barge, rescue equipment, vocational training courses, equipment and various supplies for fish processing, among others.
The plan aims to compensate fishing communities for temporary fishing restrictions in certain areas necessary for conducting some company activities, such as seismic and drilling operations. Currently, the PCAP is being implemented in the municipalities of Arraial do Cabo, Armação dos Búzios, and São João da Barra. Over these 10 years, it has also operated in the municipalities of São Francisco de Itabapoana, São João da Barra, Campos dos Goytacazes, Quissamã, Macaé, and Casimiro de Abreu/Tamoios (2nd district of Cabo Frio).
