Petrobahia Records 16% Growth in Marine Diesel Sales in 2024, Driven by Logistical Improvements and Expansion in the Transport Sector in the Northeast. The Company Aims for Continuous Growth and Environmental Commitment.
The Petrobahia announced a 16% growth in marine diesel sales in 2024, consolidating itself as the third largest distributor of the fuel in the Northeast. The significant increase occurred over the past year, reflecting the company’s expansion and the higher demand in the maritime transport sector, especially in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil.
The improvement in logistics, with the completion of storage at the Port of Itaqui, was crucial to facilitate the distribution of diesel and strengthen Petrobahia’s presence.
Logistical Expansion Drives Marine Diesel Sales
According to Ariana Alencar, marine sales advisor at Petrobahia, the company’s expansion is linked to several factors, including port improvements such as dredging and the growth of offshore support operations.

Brazil could become a global oil powerhouse with reserves jumping from 17 billion to 23.5 billion barrels, investments of US$ 30 billion per year, and exploration in the Equatorial Margin that could extend Brazilian production until 2042.

“In addition to this factor, I highlight the growth of demand for maritime transport, improvements in port operations, like dredging, and the increase in offshore support activities,” says Ariana.
Logistical efficiency has also been crucial to expand Petrobahia’s coverage, which currently supplies up to 10 Brazilian states.
Among its clients are companies in the maritime transport sector, such as merchant ships, fishing vessels, and offshore support boats, as well as port terminal operators and logistics companies that depend on maritime transport.
Outlook for the Maritime Transport and Diesel Sector
Petrobahia expects that the demand for diesel will continue to grow in 2025, driven by economic expansion in the Northeast and Brazil.
The company closely monitors strategic works, such as the dredging of the Port of Ilhéus and the construction of the Salvador–Itaparica Bridge, which should boost the maritime transport sector and, consequently, diesel consumption in the region.
Petrobahia emphasizes its concern for safety and the environment, offering fuels that meet the guidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), reducing environmental impacts.
“We know our capacity to meet all regional demands promptly, efficiently, and safely. Today in the market, we offer fuels with lower environmental impact, complying with all guidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Absolutely,” concludes Ariana Alencar.
With these actions, Petrobahia aims to grow even more and secure a prominent place in the national ranking of marine fuel distribution, targeting a position among the top 10 in the country.
