From 2019 to 2023, Petrobras Put Into Operation 12 FPSOs, Increasing Installed Production Capacity by 1.7 Million Barrels of Oil Per Day, Which Represented 50% of the Production Capacity Added Worldwide!
To meet the demand of the new production systems in the coming years, Petrobras will need an extensive and qualified supply chain. Between 2024 and 2028, the company will put into operation 14 floating oil production platforms, representing one third of the orders for FPSOs globally during this period.
Moreover, there is a significant need for subsea systems that will be connected to these oil platforms.
We Need to Capture the Entire Market. More People, Materials, and Resources Will Be Needed!
“Given the size of our portfolio, we need to capture the entire market. More people, materials, and resources will be needed,” stated Carlos Travassos, director of Engineering, Technology, and Innovation at Petrobras, during the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston (USA) on Wednesday (5/8).

To meet this demand, suppliers must be ready to offer and implement solutions that meet Petrobras’s decarbonization goals. “There is no room for projects that do not include emission reductions,” Travassos assured. He mentioned that Petrobras has already reduced the intensity of emissions in oil exploration and production activities by 53% between 2009 and 2023.
It’s Not the First Time That the Brazilian Oil Giant Has Put 14 FPSOs Into Operation in Five Years
Of the 14 new oil platforms mentioned by Travassos, ten have already been contracted. The FPSOs for Albacora and Barracuda, both in the Campos Basin, and two units for the Sergipe-Alagoas (SEAP) project are in the contracting process.
Travassos also highlighted that the task of putting 14 oil and gas platforms into operation in five years is not new for Petrobras. “We have done this before,” he recalled, mentioning that from 2019 to 2023, the company put into operation 12 FPSOs, increasing installed production capacity by 1.7 million barrels of oil per day. This increase represented 50% of the production capacity added worldwide during the period.
1 Billion for Research: Petrobras Was the Third Oil and Gas Company in the World That Invested the Most in Research and Innovation in 2023
Still on Wednesday (5/8), Travassos presented Petrobras’s initiatives in Research, Development, and Innovation (R&D&I) during an event promoted by the Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce (BRATECC), parallel to the OTC. The director mentioned investments of US$ 3.6 billion in R&D&I by 2028, as outlined in the company’s Strategic Plan for the period.
According to Travassos, Petrobras was the third oil and gas company in the world that invested the most in research and innovation in 2023, with US$ 726 million allocated. For 2024, the forecast is over US$ 1 billion in investments.

Isso sim é Fake News
