Petrobras Confirms High Productivity in Jupiter, But Says Area Located in Pre-Salt of Santos Basin Requires Innovative Technologies for Commercial Production
Petrobras has completed formation tests in an exploration area of the pre-salt called Jupiter, located in the Santos Basin, as reported by Reuters this Friday (09/04). The results confirmed the potential for “excellent productivity” of the asset, as the field contains “high value-added” oil.

According to Petrobras, the formation tests conducted were responsible for analyzing the carbonate reservoirs of the pre-salt in the Apollonia well (3-BRSA-1246-RJS), located about 295 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 2,183 meters.

According to the state-owned company, the results obtained confirm the excellent productivity of the well, presence of high value-added condensate oil, as well as high flow rates.
High Gas-Oil Ratio and Elevated CO2 Content in the Asset Requires Application of Technological Innovations from Petrobras for Commercial Production
Despite the high productivity observed in the asset of the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, it will be necessary to develop modern techniques to declare commercial viability, as the region presents a high gas-oil ratio and elevated CO2 content, requiring the application of innovative technologies for its commercial production.
Therefore, Petrobras will use samples obtained from the tests to validate an HISEP (High Pressure Separation) technology, developed and patented by the company itself.
According to Petrobras, HISEP has the potential to enable the pilot project for the development of production in the Jupiter field, as well as other projects with high gas-oil ratios and elevated CO2 content, allowing exploratory openings for opportunities in the deep and ultra-deep water portfolio of the pre-salt.
About the Jupiter Field in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin
Petrobras is the operator of the area, holding an 80% stake, with the remaining 20% belonging to Petrogal Brasil. The Jupiter field is part of the BM-S-24 concession in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.
The total recoverable volume estimated for this field is 130 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
