Petrobras’ Service Providers Will Have Their Carbon Emissions Mapped After the State-Owned Company Partners with CDP to Reduce Environmental Impacts in Its Supply Chain
A partnership between Petrobras and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) was established in recent months and continues to gain momentum as of this Saturday (05/21) to ensure greater sustainability in the operations of the company. The signed contract allows CDP to map the carbon emissions of the service providers to the state-owned company, enabling better control over the environmental impacts across the entire marketing chain with these companies.
After Partnership with Petrobras, CDP Will Map Carbon Emissions in Services of the State-Owned Company’s Suppliers in Upcoming Months
The CDP is an international non-profit organization that seeks more sustainability in global trade and maps emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect, such as carbon, in companies worldwide. Now, the organization will be responsible for a significant amount of mapping among the service providers to Petrobras, after the state-owned company entered into a partnership for the sustainability project in the coming months.
Thus, the company aims to encourage Petrobras’ suppliers to measure and report emissions within the context of the transition to a low-carbon economy, which is the current scenario of the international market. Therefore, all of CDP’s carbon emission mapping will be based on Scope 3, which refers to emissions resulting from the production of goods and services necessary for a company’s activities and operations, aiming to make the service supply chain more sustainable.

The entire carbon emissions mapping project was initiated in April, shortly after the contract was signed between the companies, and will continue over the coming months. In this regard, CDP began contacting more than 500 service providers to Petrobras to respond to a questionnaire regarding the mapping and monitoring of emissions. Although participation in the carbon emissions mapping is voluntary, companies are committed to ensuring greater sustainability in these operations.
Participation in the Carbon Emissions Mapping Program for Service Supply Will Be Essential for the State-Owned Company’s Sustainability Initiative
All suppliers who were contacted to contribute to Petrobras’ sustainability project in partnership with CDP are essential for the company’s service chain. This is because the state-owned company stated that the selection of participating companies was based on criteria of financial representativeness and critical function for the company’s operations. Therefore, it is extremely important for the carbon emissions mapping that these companies are open to the study,
For this reason, Petrobras’ Executive Manager of Supplies, Goods, and Services, Marina Quindere, highlights the importance of participation in the program as a way to contribute to Petrobras’ sustainability plan and states: “We believe that joining this CDP program reinforces Petrobras’ commitment to reducing carbon emissions, in addition to producing a mobilizing effect on the value chain of the company with hundreds of its suppliers.”
This entire initiative is part of Petrobras’ Carbon Neutral Program, which seeks to identify the development of solutions for the company’s decarbonization at the lowest cost and ensure a greater environmental commitment in its operations. Now, the state-owned company will proceed with the CDP program to guarantee all necessary studies and verify solutions to the issues.
