Petrobras installs FPSO with capacity for 225 thousand barrels and takes decisive step towards first oil in the LARGEST pre-salt field
Petrobras' FPSO Almirante Tamandaré has the capacity to produce up to 225 barrels of oil and process 12 million cubic meters of gas per day. Equipped with advanced CO2 capture and reinjection systems, the unit operates with estimated emissions of less than 10 kg CO2e/boe, making it a benchmark in sustainability.

With the capacity to process 12 million cubic meters of gas per day and equipped with decarbonization technologies, the largest FPSO ever operated by Petrobras is ready to revolutionize production in the Búzios field.

Petrobras is closer to reaching a historic milestone: the production of the first oil from the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, considered the largest on the Brazilian coast. After completing the anchoring activities in the Búzios field, the state-owned company reinforces its position as a leader in offshore exploration, combining cutting-edge technology with ambitious sustainability goals.

The grandeur of the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré

With the capacity to produce up to 225 thousand barrels of oil per day and process 12 million cubic meters of gas daily, the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré does not it's just a production unit – is a true floating colossus. Equipped with SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward multipurpose hull, this FPSO raises the industry standard in terms of efficiency and capacity.

Furthermore, it is the first in Brazil to receive the “Sustainability Rating-1”, a recognition of its technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Imagine a floating plant so efficient that it even reuses the heat generated for its operations!

The unit was designed with advanced systems for CO2 capture and reinjection, significantly reducing emissions intensity. This approach is a direct response to climate challenges, showing that Petrobras is committed to a responsible energy transition.

Completion of connection operations

The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is finalizing the installation, connection and commissioning stages offshore the Búzios field. The first oil is expected to be produced in early 2025, after the completion of these operations.

Anchoring a structure of this magnitude is a complex operation and essential to the success of the project. In the case of the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, 24 mooring systems were installed with precision, ensuring the stability required for deepwater operations.

Carlos Augusto Cardoso Lima, a Petrobras engineer, declared the team's dedication through his social network: “It is with great pride that we announce the completion of the anchoring, consolidating the installation of our largest production platform.”

Meticulous planning, efficient logistics and a highly qualified team were essential to overcome the challenges of this stage. Every detail was designed to ensure safety and efficiency, from the underwater equipment to the support of specialized vessels.

Impact on the Búzios field and Petrobras

The Búzios field is already one of Petrobras' largest producers, with five FPSOs in operation. Almirante Tamandaré, however, promises to increase these numbers even further. The first oil is expected to be extracted in early 2025, reinforcing the strategic relevance of this field in the Brazilian pre-salt layer.

This FPSO represents more than a technical achievement; it is a symbol of Petrobras’ ability to innovate and lead in the energy sector. The project strengthens the company’s position as a global leader in offshore exploration and production, especially in the pre-salt layer.

Looking beyond: Petrobras and international expansion

Petrobras’ ambitions are not limited to Brazilian waters. The state-owned company recently confirmed a significant gas discovery off the coast of Colombia. With investments that could reach US$4,1 billion, this project signals the company’s intention to diversify its operations and explore new markets.

This move is strategic as it expands Petrobras’ reach as it seeks to balance growth and sustainability.

The FPSO Admiral Tamandaré it is a milestone in history Petrobras and the oil and gas industry in Brazil. Its arrival at the Búzios field, accompanied by cutting-edge technology and sustainable solutions, highlights the state-owned company's commitment to innovation and efficiency.

We are self-sufficient in oil, what's the point of having quality oil if Petrobras was scrapped with the Lava Jato theft, more oil to be sold at a **** price abroad and to be imported as fuel at a gold price, last month 17 million barrels were sold to China, oil that Petrobras could have won at the auction because it has already announced a price increase for January 🤬😡🤬😡
