By 2025, the company plans to lay off about 3,800 employees through two programs, which are the retirement program (PAI) and the Voluntary Dismissal Program (PDV – previously launched). New adjustments have been approved by the company to encourage participation in the PDV. The expectation is a saving of R$ 7.6 billion.

In a statement, Petrobras informed that “The programs are important management tools for the workforce in the company, being yet another measure focused on cost reduction to reinforce the resilience of the company’s business.”
In addition to the two mentioned programs, the company also made changes to the PDV specifically for employees in assets undergoing divestment and for those working in the corporate segment of the company. Regarding these last two, Petrobras stated that the programs are conducted in cycles with fewer available slots, totaling lower amounts.
It also informed that the financial impacts of the programs will only be felt in the next three years. “This is because, in the PAI, dismissals will only occur when the retirement of employees in the target group is granted, and in the 2019 PDV, the existence of categories in the program that foresee an exit in up to 24 months causes the effect of diluting the dismissals over time,” it explained.
Indemnities to workers who join the programs will be made in two installments: the first at the time of dismissal and the second in July 2021 or one year after the dismissal, whichever is greater.
