Peugeot Pickup Left Brazil to Be Part of a Collection in Europe. Meet the Peugeot Hoggar, a Medium-Sized Pickup Based on the Peugeot 207 Hatch.
A national pickup recently arrived in Europe, a Peugeot Hoggar with license plates from São Paulo. This compact pickup from Peugeot, manufactured in Porto Real (RJ) between 2010 and 2014, landed in the United Kingdom last week. Its new owner, British Mat Tuck, is a French car enthusiast and collector, whose collection inspires admiration among automotive enthusiasts.
On social media, Tuck revealed that he fell in love with the Peugeot Hoggar ever since he saw the first images of it at its launch in 2010. A decade after the production of the pickup ended in Brazil, the enthusiast decided it was time to make his dream come true.
The process began in September of the previous year, with Tuck hiring a Brazilian company specialized in importation. After seven months of waiting, the Peugeot Hoggar finally arrived in England. However, it is not yet authorized to circulate, as it has not obtained the necessary license.

Peugeot Pickup Is Awaiting Documentation to Drive in Europe
Mat Tuck has not disclosed further details about the purchase of the Peugeot pickup, such as the price and fees. The pickup is now in Wiltshire, 130 km from London, while awaiting documentation to drive freely, even with the steering wheel on the left side. One of the plans of its new owner is to take it to meets of French car enthusiasts.
With an eye on the market dominated by Volkswagen Saveiro, Chevrolet Montana, Fiat Strada, and Ford Courier, Peugeot decided to produce a pickup based on the 207 hatch. In 2010, the Peugeot Hoggar emerged, maintaining the formula established by rival pickups.
Peugeot Pickup Delivers 113 Horsepower
The Hoggar was sold with a 1.4 engine producing 82 horsepower and 12 kgfm in the more basic versions, and a 1.6 engine delivering 113 horsepower and 15.5 kgfm in the more equipped versions. The gearbox of the Peugeot pickup was always a 5-speed manual.
Although it won the heart of a Brit, the Hoggar was a sales flop in Brazil. The Peugeot pickup sold less than the Ford Courier itself, an outdated project from the 1990s, based on the first generation of the Fiesta. In 2014, Peugeot chose to discontinue it.
The fact that the Peugeot Hoggar was never sold in Europe angered Tuck. The enthusiast states that he is happy when people agree that the Hoggar is an interesting car. Tuck also highlights his astonishment that Peugeot never considered producing it in Sochaux, France.
The brand even tested a prototype, but the pickup was dismantled and no longer exists. And when asked by a follower about the possibility of switching the side of the steering wheel, Tuck was categorical. Originality is everything for Tuck, and the enthusiast is already used to driving with the steering wheel on the left side.
Another Brazilian Pickup Is for Sale in Europe
A Volkswagen Saveiro is for sale in Europe. Starting with the price, as the Brazilian pickup, which was never officially sold there, is listed for 31,000 euros, or about R$ 168,000 in direct conversion. Thus, this is definitely the most expensive unit in the world.
This model was manufactured in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) in 2018. The cabin is extended, and the Saveiro is equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.6 engine. The discoverer of this Latin American delicacy on European soil was car hunter Lucas Toledo, who lives in Germany and is a car enthusiast. One of his hobbies is searching for national vehicles that ended up in Europe.
