Central Bank Confirms New Function in the Instant Payments System: Consumers Will Be Able to Split Purchases Directly Via Pix
The Central Bank of Brazil announced that the Instantly Divided Pix will be available starting in September 2025. The new feature will allow users to split purchases with interest within the system itself, while sellers will receive the full amount immediately. This measure aims to expand the use of Pix for higher-value purchases and provide an alternative to credit cards, especially benefiting consumers without access to conventional lines of credit.
The feature of the Instantly Divided Pix will allow users to make installment payments through credit granted at the time of the transaction. The buyer will choose to split the payment into several monthly installments, with the addition of interest. The recipient, such as merchants and service providers, will have the total amount credited immediately. According to sources from the Central Bank, this new phase of the system is expected to stimulate consumption and strengthen financial inclusion.
Instantiated Divided Pix Targets Consumers Without Credit Cards

According to data released by the monetary authority, about 52 million Brazilians do not have access to credit cards. With the Instantly Divided Pix, these individuals will have a formal alternative to split their purchases, especially in establishments that already adopt the instant system as a payment method. This measure may also help small entrepreneurs increase sales without relying on card machines or high fees from operators.

The Feature May Increase Competition in the Financial Sector
Experts in the banking sector believe that the Instantly Divided Pix has the potential to change the credit dynamics in Brazil. The possibility of offering installment payments with immediate settlement to the recipient may pressure card brands to reconsider fees and terms for merchants and consumers. The arrival of the feature in 2025 represents a move by the Central Bank to democratize credit and make the financial system more competitive.
In addition to the installment feature, the Central Bank also announced other functionalities that will be incorporated into Pix in the coming months. Among them is the Pix as Guarantee, expected for 2026, which will allow companies to use future receivables as a guarantee for credit, which may reduce interest rates for legal entities, especially small and medium enterprises.
Refunds Will Be Facilitated with a New Resource
Another important novelty will be the self-service in the Special Refund Mechanism (MED), set to launch on October 1, 2025. The new function will allow users to dispute suspicious or fraudulent transactions directly through banking apps, without relying on human assistance, which is expected to make the process faster and safer.
Since its launch in 2020, Pix has established itself as one of the main payment methods in Brazil, even surpassing transfers via TED and DOC. According to the Central Bank, more than 160 million people are already using the system, and with the installment feature, Pix could directly compete with the space dominated by card operators.
