With the Promise of Revolutionizing Commerce Between Brazil and Paraguay, Bioceanic Bridge Advances Toward the Pacific Ocean. Costing R$ 470 million, this structure will be essential to shorten Brazilian trade routes by up to 10 thousand kilometers, expanding tourism and the competitiveness of the country in exports.

Along the Paraguay River, a colossal work with high economic impact is progressing rapidly.

The construction of the Bioceanic Bridge, which connects Brazil to Paraguay through a unique link between Porto Murtinho, in Mato Grosso do Sul, and Carmello Peralta, in Paraguay, is becoming one of the most strategic works for trade and regional integration.

The construction is advancing with 60% of the work completed, bringing the country closer to a new milestone in international trade relations, expanding Brazilian access to Asian markets and, consequently, to the global economy.

In the second paragraph, the perspective becomes clearer: this bridge promises to transform the transport of goods to Asian countries.

According to the planning, the work will reduce by almost 10 thousand kilometers the journey of Brazilian products that currently depend on crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the Panama Canal.

The Bioceanic Route – a transport corridor that will connect Brazil to the Pacific Ocean via Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile – emerges as a strategic solution to make the country more competitive in international trade routes.

Bridge Strategy and Current Situation

The construction of the Bridge Bioceanic was resumed in March 2024, after pauses that required a restart of activities with even more planning and agility.

Currently, the overpasses on both sides, Brazilian and Paraguayan, have been completed. The work now focuses on the pillars that will support the monumental structure.

On the Paraguayan side, 68% of the pillar construction has been completed, while on the Brazilian side, this figure stands at 59%.

With these advancements, the delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, and more than 400 workers are involved daily in the construction of this impressively sized structure.

With a length of 1,294 meters and a height of 29 meters above the riverbed, the bridge will be divided into three segments.

The first two form the access overpasses on both banks, while the third consists of the cable-stayed section, which will have a length of 632 meters and a central span of 350 meters, allowing for the constant flow of vessels and the safe transport of goods.

Economic Relevance and Investigated by Authorities

The work of the Bioceanic Bridge is not free of regulatory and oversight challenges.

At the end of 2023, an investigation was conducted by the Brazilian Federal Revenue to check whether customs processes were in compliance with legislation.

The objective was to ensure the legality of import and export operations in the region and to avoid potential tax evasion practices.

This infrastructure is made possible with an investment of R$ 472.4 million, and Brazilian authorities believe that the bridge will be crucial to boosting the economy and reducing export costs, in addition to increasing Brazil’s competitiveness in the international arena.

Impact on the Bioceanic Route and Expectations for Tourism

In addition to the direct effect on the logistics of transporting goods, the Bioceanic Bridge promises to provide a new boost to tourism between Brazil and Paraguay, as well as strengthen cultural interaction between the countries.

According to studies and economic projections, this bioceanic corridor should consolidate a new front of development for the tourism sector.

The route extending to Chile will allow, for example, the creation of new tourism routes between the involved countries, encouraging exchange and the circulation of tourists throughout South America.

Conclusion and Expectation of Delivery

The Bioceanic Bridge marks a new chapter for integration between Brazil and Paraguay and aligns with the strategy of modernizing international cargo transport, an essential step for South American connectivity and for Brazil’s prominence in foreign trade.

The delivery, scheduled for early 2026, could represent the end of a long construction process and the beginning of a new era for Brazilian commerce and tourism.

How do you think the Bioceanic Bridge will impact the economy and tourism between Brazil and Paraguay? Do you believe this new route could really transform Brazilian exports to Asia?
