The Port of Long Beach Hosts 2 Events to Provide and Gather Information for the Environmental Review of the Pier Wind, Involving Stakeholders.
The Port of Long Beach located in California is promoting two events to gather information and share data for the upcoming environmental review of the Pier Wind, a proposed 400-acre terminal intended to facilitate the assembly and implementation of offshore wind turbines. If approved, the Pier Wind project will be the largest facility of its kind on the West Coast of the U.S., demonstrating California’s commitment to meeting its predominantly renewable energy goals.
As part of the effort to achieve its goals, the state of California has set an ambitious target of generating at least 5 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind energy by 2030. Industry stakeholders are focusing their efforts on building a network of port facilities to manufacture, store, prepare, install, and maintain offshore wind turbines, also aiming to serve as centers for marine support services to meet the growing demand. The Port of Long Beach will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of this important infrastructure.
Scope Definition Meeting at the Port of Long Beach
Both events will begin with an open house, where port staff will be available to answer questions and share information about the Pier Wind. Subsequently, a scope definition meeting will provide an overview of the proposed project and an explanation of the environmental review process.
