The Construction Works of the Transertaneja Railway Aim to Connect Piauí to the Port of Suape and Enable a New Terminal for the Flow of Goods Produced in the Surrounding Region of the New Branch

The Port of Suape signed the service order with the consortium formed by TPF Engenharia and B & C Engenheiros Consultores Ltda to facilitate studies for the adjustment of the Transertaneja railway project. Thus, the administration emphasized this Friday, (05/13), that the branch aims to enable the construction of a new terminal and will connect the interior of the state of Piauí to the port as a way to ensure the flow of goods produced in the region.

Signing of Service Order with Consortium is Another Step Taken by the Port of Suape for the Adjustment Studies of the Construction of the Transertaneja Railway in the Complex

The service order signed between the Port of Suape and the consortium formed by TPF Engenharia and B & C Engenheiros Consultores Ltda this week will facilitate studies for the adjustment of the Transertaneja railway project. Thus, a stretch of 9.7 kilometers between the junction of BR-101 with Rota do Atlântico (PE-09) and the eastern portion of Tatuoca Island, in the Suape Port Industrial Complex, will be the main study point for the construction works.

This project aims to allow the installation of a mineral terminal on Cocaia Island, for the flow of production from mines located in Curral Novo, in Piauí. And, with the creation of the Transertaneja railway, the Port of Suape will have a new route for the flow of this production and, subsequently, the operations of cargo handling directly in the complex. The entire project to create the new railway is being expedited and is currently within the Port’s Master Plan 2011.

Now, after the signing of the service order with the formed consortium, there will be an estimated time of 300 days for the companies to finalize the contract and facilitate the start of studies for the adjustment of the construction project of the railway. In addition, the Port of Suape announced that the investment to be made only in this first phase of the project is around R$ 5.27 million. Now, the administration is only waiting for the signing of the bidding to continue the construction plan for the branch and, later, move on to the installation of the new terminal.

Suape Complex Highlights the Importance of Constructing a New Railway to Enable the Installation of the Terminal and Expand Operations in the Transertaneja Region

The creation of the Transertaneja Railway is an alternative to the Transnordestina, a project initiated in 2006 that ended up stalled due to complications in the bidding processes. Now, the Port of Suape aims to resume the initiative to connect the interior of Piauí to the complex and ensure an efficient and agile cargo flow terminal in the region. And, after the signing of the construction authorization by the Minister of Infrastructure (Minfra), Tarcísio de Freitas, on December 10, 2021, the complex is seeking to expedite the project.

Thus, the president of the Port of Suape, Roberto Gusmão, commented on the importance of the initiative and emphasized that this “Is a very important step in preparing the port’s infrastructure for the arrival of this major railway project, which will have positive impacts not only for Suape but for the entire production chain of Pernambuco and the neighboring states. There are countless new business possibilities for various goods, such as grains and vehicles, for example.”

Finally, the administration of the Port of Suape stated that the project will be carried out by the private initiative and has an estimated cost of R$ 5.7 billion until the completion stage. Thus, the complex will be able to make its cargo flow infrastructure even more efficient in the region and will expand its presence in Piauí.
