Even With the Covid-19 Pandemic, Public Ports Set Records and Grew 5.68%, According to the Ministry of Infrastructure
Data released on the last 29th (Friday), the Ministry of Infrastructure showed that compared to the same period in 2019, the volume of cargo handled by Brazilian public ports in 2020 increased by 5.68%. Last year, 447.1 million tons of cargo were handled, compared to 423 million tons in 2019.

Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, Minister of Infrastructure, said that “In a challenging year for all of us, the port sector demonstrated maturity to face the setbacks, fully maintaining the provision of services to the logistics chains that demand the ports. The result of the professional management of our ports, the competence of our operators, and the commitment of the professionals who make up this important logistics sector.”
Port of Santos:
The Port of Santos is the largest port complex in the Southern Hemisphere and its cargo handling volume increased, reaching a 9.3% growth by the end of 2020 compared to 2019. During this period, the cargo handling volume was 146.5 million tons.

The revenue from the ports of Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis increased by 21%, totaling 630 million reais, the largest increase in the last decade.
