Ethanol Maintained Advantage in Goiás and Mato Grosso and Became More Competitive in Minas Gerais and São Paulo – State That Recorded the Lowest Fuel Price
According to a survey by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), compiled by AE-Taxas during the last week, the number of states where ethanol is more competitive than gasoline increased from two to four. Thus, in addition to the states of Goiás and Mato Grosso, where the biofuel was already more advantageous the previous week, ethanol is now also more competitive in Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
In this regard, it is considered that in order to be understood as more advantageous, ethanol from sugarcane or corn must present a price limit of 70% of the value of gasoline at gas stations, as it has a lower calorific power.
In Mato Grosso, the parity is 69.44%; in Goiás, it corresponds to 66.76%; in São Paulo, the ratio is 69.14%, and in Minas Gerais, it is 69.92%.

Even before the first drilling on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin, a wave of migrants is pressuring Oiapoque, expanding precarious occupations and transforming the city of Amapá into the new epicenter of the oil rush in the Amazon.
Ethanol is Slightly Less Favorable than Gasoline According to the National Average
Regarding the average of the gas stations assessed in the country, ethanol represents 70.42% compared to the price of gasoline, thus being slightly less favorable than the petroleum derivative.
It is important to mention that according to some executives in the fuel sector, ethanol can be more competitive even if its parity with gasoline is greater than 70%, depending on the vehicle in which the biofuel is used.
Ethanol Prices Fell in 19 States, with the National Average Dropping by 1.99%
Moreover, the greater competitiveness of ethanol is related to the decrease in its average prices in 19 states in the last week, according to the ANP survey. In seven states and the Federal District, on the other hand, the biofuel experienced an increase in value. The average price of ethanol at the gas stations surveyed by the ANP across Brazil dropped by 1.99% compared to the previous week, going from R$ 5.186 to R$ 5.083 per liter.
In São Paulo, which is the main producing and consuming state and has the most gas stations assessed, the average price fell by 2.72%, reaching R$ 4.765 per liter. Goiás, in turn, was the federative unit with the most significant percentage price drop of the week, at 2.96%, going to R$ 4.951 per liter.
São Paulo State Records the Lowest Average Fuel Price in the Country
The lowest price recorded in the last week for ethanol at a gas station was R$ 4.07 per liter, in São Paulo, while the lowest average state price, at R$ 4.765, was also recorded in the state of São Paulo. As for the highest average state price, it corresponds to R$ 6.524 and was observed in Rio Grande do Sul.
In the monthly comparison, the biofuel in question experienced a depreciation of 8.23% in the country. During the period, the state with the largest decline was São Paulo, which saw a monthly decrease of 10.90% in ethanol.
The downward trend can be associated with the increase in stock and supply of the product at gas stations and was already observed in April when the price of hydrated ethanol saw a drop of almost 8% at Brazilian gas stations compared to March.
Reporter of the Bill That Limits ICMS on Fuels Claims Voting May Happen Next Week
