The first offshore shipment at the Maricá airport, in Rio de Janeiro, took place this Thursday, heading towards the Santos Basin. Check out the gallery of images of this great milestone!

The city hall of Maricá, municipality of Rio de Janeiro, announced that today, March 3, offshore displacement operations of oil tankers at the city's airport began. Transport activities include the embarkation and disembarkation of Petrobras workers who operate on oil platforms in the Santos Basin, which is the largest offshore sedimentary basin in Brazil, with a total area of ​​more than 350 square kilometers, extending from the state of Rio de Janeiro to Florianópolis (SC).

The city of Maricá is being seen as one of the strategic locations in the State of Rio de Janeiro for transport, which has helped the logistics of people who work on board. Before, only the airports of Cabo Frio, Campos and Jacarepaguá carried out the transports.

The company that oversees the airport, Companhia de Desenvolvimento de Maricá (Codemar), expects to operate three to four flight schedules daily by the offshore air transport company Omni Táxi Aéreo. The itineraries will last approximately 45 minutes at each interval, round trip, between the mainland and the oil platforms, which are located at a distance of approximately 360 kilometers (200 nautical miles). The means of transport used are AW-139 helicopters and have the capacity to carry up to 12 passengers and 3 crew members. In addition to Omni, other air taxi companies will have opportunities to operate in the city of Rio de Janeiro in question, Maricá.

Offshore operation represents innovation in the economy of Rio de Janeiro

Olavo Noleto, the president of the Maricá Development Company (Codemar), informed the city hall that the start of operations is the milestone for a new economy that emerges in the city, due to oil activity.

According to the publication made on the Maricá City Hall website, Olavo Noleto stated: “In addition to the revenue it will generate for the municipality, the importance of air transport from now on will also be to attract companies that will be able to settle in Maricá and move trade , among other sectors, such as hotels and restaurants”.

Since 2018, Maricá airport has been properly organized and previously equipped. The city has been training a specialized team that can work with offshore operators. “Maricá prepared a lot for this day, to take these workers to the platforms from here, from our city. We are aware of the bottleneck that exists in the state within this logistics, and we are showing that the city and the airport are organized to meet the demand”, concluded the president of Codemar.
