Commission Approves Bill That Authorizes Vehicle Tuning Without Prior Authorization. Measure Reduces Bureaucracy for Car Modifications but Requires Technical Inspection to Ensure Safety.

The Chamber of Deputies’ Transportation and Traffic Commission took an important step for modified car enthusiasts by approving a bill that authorizes tuning on cars without the need for prior authorization from traffic authorities. The proposal allows changes such as wheel, tire, and suspension modifications, as long as they comply with the manufacturer’s norms and the National Traffic Council (Contran).

What Changes with the Bill

With the approval of the bill, drivers will be able to make modifications to their vehicles without facing the current bureaucracy. However, after the modifications, the car must undergo a technical inspection for the issuance of a safety certificate and registration at the Department of Transit (Detran).

According to the text, drafted by Deputy Hugo Leal (PSD-RJ) as a substitute for the original bill by Zé Vitor (PL-MG), the measure mainly addresses tuning enthusiasts, which is the practice of customizing cars both in performance and appearance. “It is important to reduce bureaucracy, but without compromising safety. Technical inspections are crucial to ensure that modified vehicles remain safe to drive,” emphasized the rapporteur.

Currently, legislation allows such modifications only for utility vehicles with a Jeep body. With the new proposal, the possibilities expand, granting more freedom for car tuning enthusiasts.

What’s Next

The proposal still needs to be analyzed by the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Commission. If approved, it will proceed to a vote in the Chamber plenary and then in the Senate. Only then can the bill become law and officially establish changes in the Brazilian Traffic Code.

Tuning fans are closely monitoring the progress of the bill, which promises to facilitate car customization without compromising safety and traffic regulation.
