A brand that has been making motorcycles since 1901 has just launched its first electric one — and the price shocked the market: US$ 3,000 for a 124 kg machine that accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.7 seconds

Royal Enfield was born in 1901. It has been 125 years of manufacturing motorcycles that have become icons on the roads of India, Europe, and the world. Now, for the first time, the brand is betting on electricity.

In April 2026, the company officially launched the Flying Flea C6, its first electric motorcycle, in India. According to New Atlas, the launch price is 279,000 Indian rupees — approximately US$ 3,000 or R$ 11,000.

For a century-old brand that built its reputation on combustion engines, the Flying Flea C6 is not just a new model. It is a bet on the future.

And the price — significantly lower than European and American competitors who charge over US$ 7,000 — positions the motorcycle as one of the most affordable in the world in the premium category.

The lightest electric motorcycle that Royal Enfield has ever made: 124 kg, 60 Nm, and 154 km of range

The Flying Flea C6 is described as the lightest motorcycle that Royal Enfield has ever produced. It weighs only 124 kg — a weight comparable to that of a scooter, but with the performance of a real motorcycle.

The permanent magnet synchronous motor delivers 15.4 kW of power and up to 60 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h happens in 3.7 seconds, and the top speed reaches 115 km/h.

  • Motor: permanent magnet synchronous, 15.4 kW
  • Torque: 60 Nm
  • Weight: 124 kg
  • 0-60 km/h: 3.7 seconds
  • Top speed: 115 km/h
  • Range (IDC): 154 km
  • Battery: 3.91 kWh

The range certified by the IDC standard is 154 km — sufficient for daily urban use without the need for intermediate recharging.

For US$ 2,100 with Battery-as-a-Service: the model that separates the cost of the battery from the price of the motorcycle

In addition to the standard price of US$ 3,000, Royal Enfield offers an even more affordable option. The Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model reduces the initial price to 199,000 rupees — about US$ 2,100.

In this format, the buyer acquires the motorcycle without the battery, which is rented through a monthly subscription. The reduction is 28.7% in the entry price.

For the European market, Royal Enfield confirmed that the price will be below 7,000 euros (about US$ 7,900).

B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, stated that “both products are very different and will come in Q4 FY25-26. It is just a starting point, as the Flying Flea can unfold into several formats that we will continue to analyze.”

Meanwhile, in China, startups linked to XPeng are already testing motorcycles that balance themselves, showing that the electric revolution on two wheels is advancing on multiple fronts.

200,000 riding combinations and Google Maps on the dashboard: the technology behind the retro design

Despite the look reminiscent of classic motorcycles from the 1960s, the Flying Flea C6 hides modern technology under the chassis.

The circular 3.5-inch TFT display is touchscreen and offers integration with Google Maps. The rider navigates directly through the dashboard, without needing a phone holder.

The system allows for 200,000 permutations of customizable riding modes. The motorcyclist adjusts parameters such as throttle response, intensity of regenerative braking, and sensitivity of controls.

Additionally, the motorcycle comes equipped with lean-sensitive ABS, cruise control, and 4G connectivity. These are features typically found in motorcycles that cost three or four times more.

Mario Alvisi, Chief Growth Officer for electric vehicles at Royal Enfield, confirmed that the model would arrive at a price below 7,000 euros in Europe.

From EICMA in Milan to the showroom in Bangalore: the timeline of a historic launch

The journey of the Flying Flea C6 to market was quick by industry standards.

In November 2024, Royal Enfield revealed the model at EICMA, the traditional motorcycle fair in Milan. In April 2026, the motorcycle hit the streets.

The first exclusive showroom for the Flying Flea line was inaugurated in Bangalore, where pre-orders began. Deliveries to customers are scheduled for the end of May 2026.

For the UK, the arrival is scheduled for the end of 2026. In Brazil, there is still no confirmed date.

The acceleration of electric buses in Brazil indicates that the national market is becoming increasingly receptive to the electrification of transport.

Not everything is perfect: modest range, no date for Brazil, and doubts about the battery

On the other hand, the Flying Flea C6 has limitations that need to be considered. The range of 154 km is adequate for urban use but insufficient for long trips — something that Royal Enfield’s traditional clientele values.

The top speed of 115 km/h also restricts use on high-speed highways.

Furthermore, there is no confirmation that the battery uses solid-state technology, as mentioned in some initial speculations. The 3.91 kWh battery is relatively small for the market.

There is no official forecast for a launch in Brazil, and approvals from agencies such as INMETRO have not yet been mentioned.

Still, for a century-old brand taking its first electric step, the Flying Flea C6 gets it right where it matters: affordable price, lightweight, and cutting-edge technology in a package with vintage soul. Whether it will win over motorcyclists who grew up with the roar of a Royal Enfield engine, only time — and the roads — will tell.
