USP Launched a Free Course on YouTube About Neural Natural Language Processing in Portuguese. There Are Six Modules That Teach How to Program in Python Using Machine Learning. The Course, Developed by IME, Is Accessible to Everyone and Offers a Certificate for Those Who Complete the Activities.

Imagine learning to program in Python and process texts in Portuguese using advanced machine learning techniques. And the best part: all of this for free and without the need to go through a selection process!

USP Now Offers a Complete Course on Neural Natural Language Processing in Portuguese on YouTube, with a certificate for those who complete the proposed activities.

The Course Is Divided into Six Comprehensive Modules and is promoted by the Department of Computer Science at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) of USP.

It was developed by Professor Marcelo Finger, in partnership with master’s student Alan Barzilay and edited by Roger Bravo. Initially available on the Coursera, the course is now freely accessible through the IME channel on YouTube, making knowledge available to an even larger audience.

The Course Modules Include:

  1. Introduction to Computational Linguistics: Basic concepts and the importance of computational linguistics in the current context.
  2. Introduction to Neural Networks: Fundamentals of neural networks and how they work.
  3. Neural Language Processing and Word Representation: Techniques for word representation and its neural processing.
  4. Word2vec: Details about this popular language processing model.
  5. Recurrent Neural Networks and Sequence-to-Sequence Processing: Use of recurrent neural networks for processing sequences.
  6. LSTM and GRU Networks: Advanced applications of LSTM and GRU networks in language processing.

The course uses libraries from the TensorFlow package for Python, which can be downloaded for free, allowing students to experiment and apply their acquired knowledge practically.

Participants Will Learn to Use Machine Learning to Process Texts in Brazilian Portuguese, being able to develop programs in Python that perform tasks such as text classification, sentiment analysis, and basic translations, among other applications of neural networks. The methodology is entirely in Portuguese, which facilitates the understanding and application of concepts for native speakers.

For Those Who Complete the Activities and Exercises Presented on the Coursera Platform, it is still possible to obtain a completion certificate, further valuing the learning and providing proof of the acquired knowledge.

The course playlist on YouTube contains all six modules, in addition to presenting the exercises and submission activities, providing a complete and accessible learning experience. To consult the presented material and enroll, access the IME channel on YouTube.

This USP initiative democratizes access to knowledge in cutting-edge areas such as computer science and natural language processing, training professionals equipped to face current technological challenges.
