With a Great Geographical Location, Rio Grande do Norte Has Become a Great Spot for Wind Energy Investments, Having 194 Plants
In recent years, Brazil has received huge investments in the wind energy sector, and Rio Grande do Norte (RN) is no exception, as wind farms are everywhere in the Costa Branca region. In Areia Branca, all roads lead to the wind energy plants. This is all due to the favorable wind conditions of the state.

The Strong Winds of Rio Grande do Norte
According to Darlan Santos, the president of the Center for Strategies in Natural Resources and Energy (Cerne), Rio Grande do Norte has a great geographical position. In its location, there is a concentration of trade winds, which tend to align with the equator. This gives Rio Grande do Norte a perfect position, considering that the winds have an intensity and quality ideal for wind energy production. Because of these qualities, the Brazilian state has excellent conditions for investments in new plants in the sector.
In total, there are 194 wind energy plants scattered throughout the state. Darlan Santos (President of CERNE) states that wind energy can provide the state with decentralized investments. Currently, the cities of João Câmara, Guamaré, and Mossoró have become references in wind energy, especially João Câmara, which is the center for the operation and maintenance of wind energy plants in the state.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
Wind energy has been in Rio Grande do Norte for over 10 years, and at the current moment, the state is home to the 14 largest companies in the sector. RN produces, solely with wind energy plants, four times more than what is needed to power the entire state.
Words from the Secretary of Economic Development of RN
According to the Secretary of Economic Development of Rio Grande do Norte, Jaime Calado, the state is already a large exporter. If the state consumption is 1 gigawatt, and 4.6 are produced, RN exports what is left to other states.
Rio Grande do Norte is the largest producer of onshore wind energy. Each of the 194 wind energy plants has between 20 and 50 wind turbines.
The Benefits That Wind Energy Provides to the State
The current scenario attracts investments from large companies, bringing along the generation of new job positions.
The estimate for the state is that about 1,400 jobs will be created. And this is not just about the investments from companies; other parties can open courses and programs focused on the wind energy sector. Even oil companies around the world are adapting to clean energy, as exemplified by Shell, among others.
