New Investment in Minas Gerais: Belo Horizonte Bypass Works Get Forecast for 2025. Learn All About the Construction of the BH Bypass, Which Promises to Connect 11 Cities and Solve the Main Bottlenecks.

Construction of the Bypass 2025: The Bypass, the Brazilian subsidiary of the renowned Italian company INC SPA, is about to start the works on the long-awaited Belo Horizonte Bypass, a strategic project that promises to transform the infrastructure of the metropolitan area. With a robust investment, the construction of this new road will bring significant improvements, such as reducing urban traffic, enhancing connectivity between cities, and stimulating local economic development. The responsible company has already set estimates for the start of construction and the sections that will be part of this important project, which is expected to positively impact mobility and quality of life in Greater BH.

What Will the Belo Horizonte Bypass Be?

The Belo Horizonte Bypass, with its 100 kilometers of road network connecting 11 cities in the RMBH, is a large-scale investment that will boost mobility and the economy in the region.

The first phase of the Belo Horizonte Bypass construction will consist of a 70 km stretch connecting 8 municipalities in Greater BH. The investment in this stretch will be R$ 3.07 billion from the State, and the concessionaire, in turn, will contribute about R$ 2 billion for the Belo Horizonte Bypass works.

The first phase of the Belo Horizonte Bypass works begins in Sabará, passing through Santa Luzia, Vespasiano, and ending at MG 424.

The second stretch starts in Vespasiano, goes through São José da Lapa, Pedro Leopoldo, Ribeirão das Neves, and ends in Contagem, at BR 040. Finally, the third stretch encompasses Contagem and Betim, ending at the BR 262 bypass.

According to Celso Paes, president of Rodoanel BH S.A, the environmental licensing projects for the Belo Horizonte Bypass works are at an advanced stage with the State Foundation for the Environment (Feam), and the first executive projects are expected to be ready by early 2025.

Main Benefits of the Belo Horizonte Bypass Construction

The investment will be a Class 0 highway, the first of its kind in the state of Minas Gerais, featuring a modern and safe layout and will utilize cutting-edge technology, ensuring a smooth journey for all users.

Travel time will be reduced by 30 to 50 minutes, both for urban mobility and cargo transport, as well as a decrease in the flow of approximately 5,000 trucks in the urban area of the capital.

The Belo Horizonte Bypass works will allow the state of Minas Gerais to enter a new phase of cargo logistics, creating opportunities for development and the establishment of new companies and businesses throughout the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte.

For the RMBH economy, the Belo Horizonte Bypass will provide an increase of 7% to 13% in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over ten years, with production growth between 0.8% and 1.3% in the same period. It will generate up to 15,000 direct and indirect jobs, expanding and developing the cities near the construction of the BH Bypass.

Criticisms and Deadlines of the New Investment in Minas Gerais

Despite bringing several benefits, the Belo Horizonte Bypass works have faced criticism from the municipalities of Contagem and Betim, which point out issues related to neighborhood divisions and social impacts on local communities.

The president of the concessionaire responsible for the works assesses that all issues are being evaluated in the preparation of the executive project and that corrections or changes determined by the Foundation for the Environment may arise, which will be discussed over the coming months.

According to Paes, the company has specialized consulting, the material was submitted on February 28, and Feam has a one-year period to analyze and raise its questions. The deadline is running.
