In 2023, Samsung Plans to Enter a New Segment, Being the Latest Brand to Venture into the Foldable PC Sector. This is because the company has its foldable OLED panel for use in its laptop, which is expected to feature an amazing 17.3-inch foldable screen.
Samsung has always been recognized for its display panels in TVs and smartphones, and now it aims to expand its horizons in the foldable space market. Thus, it joins Lenovo and Asus, which already have laptops with foldable screens, with the latter already having several models available in the market, especially the India laptop.
Meanwhile, the PC segment has been undergoing significant changes in recent years, which is perfect for an industry that could eventually fade away amid the smartphone sector. However, actions like this from Samsung could bring new perspectives to this scenario.
Thus, Samsung intends to enter the foldable world in style, including the PC segment. Currently, Asus has a partnership with LG for OLED panels, but it is possible that it may switch to Samsung, which has already placed orders for its laptop division, indicating that the next one should be on the shelves soon.

While cities like Tokyo, New York, and Frankfurt may take up to 18 months to build a single large-scale water-cooled data center, Google and SpaceX confirmed in May 2026 formal negotiations to launch entire artificial intelligence processing facilities into low orbit before 2030, using Elon Musk’s company’s Starship V3 rockets, with solar power 36% more efficient than on Earth’s surface, vacuum radiative cooling, and prototypes of Project Suncatcher already scheduled to enter orbit in early 2027.
Regardless, the foldable PC segment will still be a niche space for an indefinite time, but Samsung’s initiative to enter this scene is very worthwhile, especially since it already has products with sliding screens. Therefore, check out some prototypes announced by Samsung in recent days.
Flex Hybrid OLED
As a prototype of a screen that folds and slides, the Flex Hybrid OLED promises to be a Samsung revolution. On the device, it will be possible to view videos and photos on a 10.5-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, or on a 12.4-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio.
Flex Slidable
Previously showcased at Intel Innovation 2022, the Flex Slidable is Samsung’s new sliding screen. With 17 inches, it features two concepts: the Flex Slidable Solo, which allows the screen to expand in one direction, and the Flex Slidable Duet, to expand the display in both directions.
Ranging in size from 13 to 14 inches, and up to 17 inches, it has been designed for different uses, being one of Samsung’s major initiatives in recent years.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that these new products are enhanced by IntelliSense AL, an optimization algorithm that collects pixel information and uses it for light control.
In their manufacturing, the screens feature OLED Hyper Efficient EL, a material that ensures increased efficiency of the light source, allowing for a layer of brighter and lighter color conversion.
Finally, it is important to point out that the products have reduced energy consumption, especially when compared to the models from 2022. Therefore, Samsung will not only venture into the world of foldable screens but also bring modernity and efficiency to its products.
