São Paulo Will Launch an Aeromóvel Promising to Transport 2,000 People Per Hour. The Innovation Is Expected to Operate This Year.
Have you ever imagined a transportation system so efficient that it connects passengers directly to the heart of the largest airport in Brazil in just 6 minutes?
Well, this reality is closer than you think.
São Paulo is preparing to inaugurate a new mode of transportation at Guarulhos International Airport, capable of revolutionizing urban mobility and providing more agility to passengers.

Why was it possible for even those with low incomes to own a house and a car in the past, while today they can barely pay their bills? Understand how inflation, high interest rates, expensive credit, and rising property values have transformed the cost of living and compressed families’ purchasing power over the past few decades.
The question that remains is: will this be enough to solve the traffic chaos in the city?
The AeroGRU, as the new aeromóvel is being called, is expected to start operating by the end of 2024, according to estimates from GRU Airport, the group responsible for managing the airport.
The system has already undergone final tests on October 22, 2024, a crucial step for its implementation.
With three high-capacity vehicles and innovative technology, the transport promises not only to connect the terminals of Guarulhos Airport but also to provide a new public transport alternative for thousands of users.
How Will the Aeromóvel Work?
Connecting the three terminals of the airport to the Aeroporto-Guarulhos station of Line 13-Jade and to the Expresso Palmeiras-Barra Funda line of CPTM, the aeromóvel will replace the current bus system that makes this route.
With capacity to transport up to 200 passengers per vehicle and operating at intervals of just 6 minutes, the AeroGRU is expected to serve up to 2,000 passengers per hour.
This solution represents a leap in efficiency for those who need to move within the airport and access public transport.
According to information released by the GRU Airport group, the system has already reached speeds of up to 57 km/h during tests, demonstrating that it will be a fast and safe option for users.
The operation will be similar to the aeromóvel that has been in operation at Salgado Filho Airport in Porto Alegre since 2013.
This technology is based on pneumatic propulsion, a system where air pressure pushes the cars, providing clean and quiet transportation.
Aeromóvel: A Promising Technology
The aeromóvel system, which will be inaugurated in São Paulo, is already successfully used at Porto Alegre Airport.
Since August 2013, Salgado Filho Airport has relied on an aeromóvel system that has revolutionized the way passengers move internally.
The technology has proven to be an efficient solution for areas with high foot traffic, offering fast, comfortable, and environmentally friendly transportation.
With pneumatic propulsion, the aeromóvel uses controlled air pressure to move the cars.
This technology eliminates the need for fossil fuels and helps reduce carbon emissions, becoming a sustainable option in times of climate crisis.
Additionally, the system is quiet, improving the passenger experience and minimizing environmental impact.

Connection to Public Transport
One of the main attractions of the AeroGRU is its direct connection to public transport in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
The Aeroporto-Guarulhos station serves both Line 13-Jade and the Expresso Palmeiras-Barra Funda line, both operated by CPTM.
This facilitates passenger access to the city center and other metropolitan areas, eliminating the need for long or complicated journeys between different transport modes.
According to experts, this connection could become a significant differentiator for the thousands of users who depend on public transport daily, as well as alleviate traffic around the airport.
Currently, the journey between the terminals of the airport is made by a bus line, which often causes discomfort and delays, especially during peak hours.
The new system promises to put an end to these issues.
When Will It Start Operating?
The expected delivery of the AeroGRU is by the end of 2024, and the anticipation surrounding the new system is high.
Tests conducted on October 22, 2024, demonstrated the efficiency of the aeromóvel, which successfully passed safety and performance evaluations.
Now, the team at GRU Airport is working on final adjustments before making the service available to the public.
However, some challenges still need to be overcome, such as adapting the infrastructure for the propulsion system and ensuring that the vehicles operate continuously at all times.
According to local authorities, the goal is for the system to be 100% operational to meet the expected demand by the end of the year, as Guarulhos Airport is the largest in Brazil in terms of passenger traffic.
The Future of Transportation in Brazil
The implementation of AeroGRU is an important milestone for transportation infrastructure in Brazil.
With innovative technologies, the country is moving towards providing faster, more efficient, and sustainable solutions, especially in high-traffic areas such as airports.
The question remains: will the new aeromóvel be able to relieve the chaotic traffic of São Paulo and improve the passenger experience?
