The second installment of the INSS 13th salary will be paid between May 25th and June 8th to 35 million beneficiaries. See dates, values, and how to avoid scams.

Around 35 million retirees, pensioners, and social security beneficiaries will receive the second installment of the INSS 13th salary between May 25th and June 8th. According to IG, the payment, anticipated by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva through Decree No. 12,884, is expected to inject R$ 78.2 billion into the Brazilian economy. As anticipation for the deposit grows, authorities warn of an increase in scam attempts targeting insured individuals during this period.

How the INSS 13th salary payment works

This year, the social security bonus was divided into two stages, following the format already adopted in previous years. The first installment — corresponding to 50% of the benefit amount and exempt from deductions — was deposited between April 24th and May 8th.

Now, the second installment of the INSS 13th salary comes into play. This stage may be subject to Income Tax deductions for insured individuals who meet the current taxation criteria.

It is worth remembering that deposit dates vary according to the final digit of the benefit — disregarding the verification digit — and also according to the amount the insured individual receives monthly.

Who is entitled to the INSS 13th salary and who is excluded

Not every INSS beneficiary receives the annual bonus. The payment includes:

  • Retirees
  • Pensioners
  • Insured individuals receiving sickness benefit
  • Accident benefit beneficiaries
  • Those receiving imprisonment aid

On the other hand, two specific groups are not entitled to the 13th salary:

  • BPC (Continuous Cash Benefit) beneficiaries
  • Recipients of the Lifetime Monthly Income

The exclusion is due to the assistance nature of these modalities, which follow different rules from traditional social security benefits. Furthermore, those who started receiving an INSS benefit during 2026 will only be entitled to an amount proportional to their period of connection with social security.

How much you can receive in May

For those who receive exactly one minimum wage — currently set at R$ 1,621 — May can be an especially boosted month for their budget. Adding the monthly benefit to the second installment of the 13th salary, the total deposited amount can reach R$ 2,431.50.

For insured individuals who receive above the national minimum wage, the bonus amount is calculated proportionally to each person’s benefit.

Attention: Scams increase during 13th salary payment period

The approaching deposit of the second installment of the INSS 13th salary has coincided with an increase in scams against retirees and pensioners. Criminals have been exploiting this period through calls, SMS messages, WhatsApp, and social media.

An important fact: INSS never asks for passwords, photos of documents, bank details, or any type of payment to release benefits. In many cases, scammers even use bank names, INSS logos, and fake images of attendants to make their approach more convincing.

What to do to avoid financial traps

To protect themselves, retirees and pensioners should adopt some basic security measures:

  • Seek information only through Meu INSS or Central 135
  • Never provide CPF, password, or bank account details in incoming calls
  • Do not make payments for supposed bonus unlocks
  • Do not access links sent by unknown persons via WhatsApp or SMS

Payment not received: what to do?

If the payment does not appear in the account on the expected date, the initial recommendation is to check the official INSS calendar and verify the last digit of the benefit number to confirm the correct deposit day.

It is also important to check if there has been a recent registration update, a temporary bank account block, or even a recent benefit concession, in which case the amount may be released proportionally.

If the problem persists without explanation, it is advisable to seek assistance only through official INSS channels. Experts warn against using intermediaries or third parties who promise to expedite the release for a fee.
