Some Models Have Experienced Absurd Depreciation, Causing Concern for Buyers and Opportunities for Those Seeking a Good Deal. Check Out the List of Vehicles That Lost the Most Value!

If you bought a car in the last few months, this news might keep you awake at night! Some models have depreciated so absurdly on the Tabela FIPE that their owners can hardly believe how much they’ve lost in such a short time. Luxury SUVs, renowned sedans, and even sports models have not escaped this true avalanche in the used car market.

But hold on! If you’re on the other side of the story and looking to buy a pre-owned car at a more accessible price, these drops can represent a great opportunity. After all, a car that cost a fortune a year ago can now be acquired for a much more interesting price. Want to know which were the biggest “villains” of depreciation? Check out the list!

Chevrolet Cruze Premier 2023 – Drop of R$ 11,801

The Chevrolet Cruze Premier 2023 took a hard hit when it was discontinued in 2023, directly impacting its value on the Tabela FIPE. Previously valued at R$131,241, it can now be found for around R$119,440, nearly R$12,000 lost in a year!

Despite the depreciation, the Cruze is still a competent car. It offers a 1.4 turbo engine with 153 hp, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a good equipment package. However, with its announced end, the trend is for prices to continue falling.

Volkswagen Tiguan All Space R-Line 2024 – Drop of R$ 12,637

Even though it is a beloved SUV, the Volkswagen Tiguan All Space R-Line 2024 has lost over R$ 12,600 since February 2023. The model used to cost R$ 227,637 and today it can be found for around R$ 214,900.

The German SUV comes with a 2.0 turbo engine with 186 hp, eight-speed automatic transmission, and a spacious interior for up to seven occupants. Despite being well-equipped, the Tiguan struggles against the strong competition from more modern SUVs with more competitive prices.

Ford Bronco Sport Wildtrak 2022 – Drop of R$ 26,740

The Ford Bronco Sport Wildtrak 2022 is one of the most stylish and robust SUVs in its class, but even that didn’t prevent its price drop. In February 2023, it was valued at R$ 222,087 and now can be bought for R$ 195,347, a loss of nearly R$ 27,000.

Equipped with a 2.0 turbo engine with 253 hp, all-wheel drive, and high-quality finishes, the Bronco Sport is an excellent option for those looking for an adventurous SUV. However, its high initial price and the fierce competition with more affordable domestic models weighed against its value appreciation.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport HPE-S 2023 – Drop of R$ 32,834

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport HPE-S 2023 has lost a considerable amount of value since its last evaluation. At the end of 2023, the SUV was priced at R$ 328,931 and today can be found for R$ 296,100, accumulating a loss of over R$ 32,000.

With a 2.4 turbo diesel engine with 190 hp, 4×4 drive, and a sophisticated interior, the Pajero Sport remains an excellent SUV for those seeking robustness and comfort. However, its drop in value may scare off future buyers.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2020 – Drop of R$ 42,628

The biggest loser on the list is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2020, which plummeted R$ 42,628 on the Tabela FIPE. At the beginning of 2023, the SUV was valued at R$ 284,337 and now costs just R$ 241,709.

Even though it is a luxurious model with a 3.0 V6 turbo diesel engine with 241 hp, all-wheel drive, and premium finishes, the Grand Cherokee suffers from the natural depreciation of luxury SUVs, which tend to lose a lot of value in the first years of use.

Is It Worth Buying One of These Cars Now?

The drop in the Tabela FIPE may frighten owners, but for those in the pre-owned market, this could be a great opportunity. Models that have lost significant value often have more attractive prices and still offer an excellent driving experience.

However, before buying any of these cars, it is essential to evaluate cost-benefit, maintenance, and insurance, to avoid future surprises.

The depreciation of vehicles is an inevitable factor in the automotive market, but some drops are more pronounced than others. For owners of these cars, the impact on resale can be significant, but for attentive buyers, these depreciations may mean good opportunities.

If you are thinking about changing cars, keep an eye on the Tabela FIPE and market trends to ensure you get the best deal!
