The Contract Won by Siemens Encompasses a New Battery Technology That Will Be Applied in the AKOFS Seafarer Well Intervention Unit, Making It Pioneering in This Type of Application
Siemens announced on Tuesday that it will deliver the Siemens BlueVault Energy Storage Solution, including batteries from its new production unit in Trondheim. The modification will increase the operational capacity of the DP vessel, improving the safe operation of the vessel while reducing fuel consumption in various operational modes, said Siemens.
“This contract demonstrates the benefits of implementing batteries in the power supply system for both new ships and retrofitted offshore vessels. In operation, these vessels have highly variable energy consumption in DP mode and during operations.
The batteries and advanced power electronics lead to a significant reduction in fuel consumption, climate emissions, and maintenance costs for these vessels, says Ketil Aagesen, head of sales for Siemens Marine in Norway.
