The SU-57 Fighter Jet Presents 6 Advancements of the New Stealth Engine of the Russian Fighter, Including Thrust Vectoring and Enhanced Design, Promising Revolution in the Skies
For the first time, the Russian fighter SU-57 has been equipped with a new stealth engine. The highlight is a new type of engine nozzle with thrust vectoring, whose angled and flattened design aims to enhance the stealth characteristics of the SU-57. This technological advancement will be integrated into the AL-51 F1 engine in the upgraded version, the SU-57M.
So far, the SU-57 used the AL-41 F1 engine, the same one present in the SU-35 fighter. However, this configuration is not ideal for stealth aircraft.
Engines for fighters of this type generally have serrated edges to reduce radar reflection and create a turbulence that mixes hot gases with the cold air around. This decreases the aircraft’s thermal signature, making it more difficult to detect by passive systems like IRST.

The major innovation of the new stealth engine of the Russian AL-51 F1 compared to the AL-41 is the capability of bidimensional thrust vectoring, focused on pitch control.
Unlike the AL-41, which allows for three-dimensional vectoring (pitch, yaw, and roll control), the AL-51 F1 significantly improves the maneuverability of the SU-57, allowing tighter turns and operations at low speeds, such as at the angle of attack.
This type of flattened stealth engine nozzle is already used in the American F-22 Raptor, making comparisons inevitable. However, the future of the SU-57M remains uncertain. It is unknown whether this new stealth engine of the Russian fighter will actually be integrated into the upgraded version of the SU-57 or when that will occur.
The advancement will heavily depend on future orders of the SU-57, which may drive the development of the SU-57M and lead to the mass production of the AL-51 F1 engine, currently just a prototype.
