Belo Horizonte metro fare increases from R$ 5.80 to R$ 6 on July 1st. Integrated tickets may reach R$ 14.20.

The fare of the Belo Horizonte metro will cost R$ 6 starting this Wednesday, July 1st. The new rate represents an increase of 3.81% over the current R$ 5.80 and also changes the prices of trips that combine rail transport with municipal and metropolitan bus lines.

The adjustment was authorized by the State Secretariat for Infrastructure, Mobility and Partnerships of Minas Gerais, Seinfra, and was made official in the State Official Gazette on Saturday, June 27th.

In addition to the single ticket, passengers using integrations may pay between R$ 9.35 and R$ 14.20, depending on the municipality and the service chosen.

With the update, passengers using only the metro will pay R$ 0.20 more per trip.

The price rises from R$ 5.80 to R$ 6, continuing the sequence of annual adjustments applied since Metrô BH took over the operation of the railway system in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte.

The concession contract provides for the revision of fares every year in July. In 2026, the authorized increase was 3.81%.

Bus integrations become more expensive

The change also affects passengers who combine bus and metro in the same journey. On integrated metropolitan and municipal lines, fares will vary between R$ 10.40 and R$ 14.20.

For those using buses from Contagem in conjunction with the metro, the integrated ticket will cost R$ 11.60. In Belo Horizonte, integration prices will range from R$ 9.35 to R$ 10.60, depending on the line and route used.

Thus, the financial impact will be different for each passenger. Those who depend on two means of transport in their daily commute may face a greater increase than users who purchase only the metro ticket.

Price increased by R$ 0.70 since the start of the concession

Metrô BH took over the operation of rail transport in the metropolitan region in July 2023. At that time, the fare was R$ 5.30.

The following year, the price rose to R$ 5.50. In July 2025, it reached R$ 5.80, before reaching the R$ 6 planned for July 2026.

Since the beginning of the concession, therefore, the Belo Horizonte metro fare has accumulated a nominal increase of R$ 0.70.

Considering only the most recent adjustment, a passenger making two trips a day will pay an additional R$ 0.40 daily.

Value remained at R$ 4.25 for three years

The history of the last decade shows periods of stability and phases of more intense increases.

Between 2016 and 2018, the fare remained at R$ 1.80. In 2019, a staggered adjustment process began, which raised the price from R$ 2.40 to R$ 4.25.

This value was maintained between 2020 and 2022.

The fare rose again in July 2023, when it increased to R$ 5.30, already during the operation period of Metrô BH.

Starting Wednesday, users will need to consider the new values when planning their trips through the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte.

The adjustment is not limited to individual metro boarding. As it also affects bus integrations, the final cost may vary depending on the city of origin, the line used, and the necessary transport combination.

With authorization from Seinfra and publication in the Official Gazette, the Belo Horizonte metro fare starts July 2026 at R$ 6, while integrated tickets may reach R$ 14.20.
