Arms Company Announces Strategic Transfer of Its Main Line Assembly to the United States in Response to New Tariffs, Adjusting Logistics and Production Between Brazil and Abroad.

Taurus announced on August 8, 2025, that it will transfer the assembly of the G family firearms to the United States (US) in response to tariffs applied to Brazilian products.

According to the company, the change begins in September and is part of an emergency plan to reduce the impact of the taxation.

In practice, Taurus transfers production to the US by concentrating the assembly of part of its main line of pistols at the company’s manufacturing facility in Georgia.

What Changes in September

The company reported that it will assemble about 900 firearms per day in the US, a volume that currently comes from Brazil for the North American market.

Currently, 2,100 firearms produced per day in Brazil are directed to the United States, a figure that indicates the extent of the logistical adjustment the manufacturer intends to carry out.

The change in production by Taurus aims to preserve delivery schedules and margins in light of a heavier tariff scenario.

Tariffs and Company Response

The company’s management links the move to US trade policy.

According to the statement, since the beginning of discussions about tariffs, Taurus has been taking measures to cushion the financial effects.

Among the actions, the manufacturer stated that it has strengthened the stock of finished products abroad and maintains about 90 days of inventory in the United States.

In a statement, the company said: “Taurus also expedited the exports of some pieces and parts to the United States, especially firearm magazines, aiming to anticipate the 50% tariff.”

This set of initiatives is part of the redesign of the industrial flow, in which Taurus transfers production to the US to reduce currency and tax exposure related to exports.

Dependency on the North American Market

The global CEO, Salesio Nuhs, highlighted in July that sales to the United States account for 82.5% of the company’s revenue.

This data highlights the centrality of the North American market in the manufacturer’s strategy.

In 2024, Taurus reported net revenue of R$ 1.6 billion, reflecting the weight of exports in revenue composition.

When the plans for logistical reconfiguration were first mentioned, shares fell by 7.87% in that day’s trading, reflecting investor uncertainty about margin trajectories.

This context helps to understand why the change in Taurus’s production has been treated as an executive priority.

Where Taurus Produces Today

The manufacturer operates three production units. The industrial headquarters is in São Leopoldo (RS), responsible for a large part of the global volume.

Abroad, the company operates a factory in Georgia (US) and another in India, which began operations and marketing in 2024.

The installed capacity in Brazil is 7,000 firearms per day, while the North American plant has a capacity of 3,000 firearms per day.

With the new configuration, Taurus transfers production to the US within the idle space of this capacity, prioritizing the G family, described by the company as its main product line.

Why the G Family is Strategic

The G family is the line of pistols that concentrates a high volume of sales and strong acceptance in the North American retail market, according to communications from the company itself.

This is the portfolio with the highest turnover, which makes the change in Taurus’s production in this category an action with immediate impact on order fulfillment.

By relocating the assembly of this family to Georgia, the company aims to shorten distribution times within the United States and avoid tariff incidence on finished items exported from Brazil.

Logistics, Inventory, and Parts

To navigate the transition without disruption in deliveries, the company reported that it has initiated, since April, a preventive stock increase in the United States.

This buffer of approximately 90 days serves to sustain the sales turnover while the local assembly line scales gradually.

Another focus of the plan was to anticipate the sending of parts and components, with an emphasis on magazines, to mitigate the effects of the 50% tariff.

In the same vein, Taurus transfers production to the US to reduce dependence on the shipment of complete firearms from Brazil, which would be more susceptible to tariffs.

And Jobs and Suppliers in Brazil?

The company has not provided, so far, information about changes in its workforce in Brazil related to this announcement.

There is also no public information regarding any adjustments in contracts with Brazilian suppliers resulting from the relocation of assembly.

Without this data, it is not possible to quantify labor or regional impacts in São Leopoldo, beyond what has already been disclosed about the redirecting of the G family assembly.

How is the Relation with Investors?

The volatility observed in the market when the plans were announced in July suggests analysts’ attention to the effect of tariffs on costs and margins.

With 82.5% of revenue tied to the North American market, the change in Taurus’s production serves as an attempt to protect market share and profitability in that country.

It remains to be seen how the operational execution of the transfer and the level of stocks in the North American retail market will reflect in quarterly performance.

So far, what is confirmed by the company is that Taurus transfers production to the US focusing on the G family, operating within the installed capacity in Georgia.

In light of the transfer of the G family assembly to the US and the 50% tariff mentioned by the company, do you believe that the change in Taurus’s production will remain temporary or tend to become a new industrial standard for the company?
