The summer vacation of 2024 is coming, bringing the opportunity to enjoy the activities at SESI Lab! The 100% interactive museum has prepared a special program for the whole family to enjoy during the school vacations, featuring screenings of short and feature films, theatrical performances, music, and many interactive workshops. The open house season will take place from January 2 to February 4, with free entry for everyone!
Those looking for activities during the vacation will find at SESI Lab a season of free admission for the whole family to enjoy. Additionally, the space offers the opportunity to experience the maker vacation with a program full of educational and fun activities for children and adults.
Light at the End of the Tunnel: Democratic Cinema During the School Vacation
To participate in the special events at SESI Lab during the vacation, it will be necessary to issue a ticket on Sympla. But, of course, everything is free. Throughout the month, the opening hours will remain the same: Tuesday to Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM. Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 AM to 7 PM. The SESI Lab café and concept store will operate on the same days and times as the museum’s activities.

Cultural attractions will occur every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in January and on the first weekend of February. On other days, the museum will be open for visitation. Entry will be allowed until one hour before closing on all days.

Here’s Hands-On Fun! Maker Vacation at SESI Lab
With the inauguration of SESI Lab in November 2022, Brasília gained a multi-use space with free entry, a 6.1 sound system, and digital projection. The SESI Lab tunnel is a gift for residents and tourists, with a program for all ages, exploring different genres and experiments. During the vacation program, the venue will promote the ‘Cine Curtas’ project, with screenings on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 5 PM.
The film program in the tunnel is curated by Glauce Pena Santos, along with the Cultural Programming team of the museum. The selected animations for projection stimulate reflections on science, innovation, and technology in everyday life. Among the selections are shorts from Pixar, the Brazilian series ‘Anima Criança: Lendas Brasileiras’, among others. The feature ‘Minhocas’, the first stop-motion film made in Brazil, is also on the screening list.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, at 11 AM, the space will host theatrical performances and musical presentations from the Brasília Ska Jazz Club, especially for children. Among the plays are ‘Where’s the Animal That Was Here?’, with Camerata Caipira, ‘The Romance of Cowboy Benedito’, with Mamulengo Presepada, ‘Udigrudi in ConSerto’, from the Udi Grudi circus theater, among others.
Experimentation, Interactivity, Playfulness, and Innovation During the Free Admission Season
Interactive workshops will take place at 11 AM and 4 PM on Fridays. On Saturdays and Sundays, they will be at 11 AM, 3 PM, and 4 PM. Confirmed workshops include ‘Virtual Butterfly Garden’, ‘Tones of Self’, ‘Ecodesign’, ‘Light Painting: Painting with Light’, ‘Puppet Play’, ‘Creating Fungi and Bacteria’, ‘Building Circuits with Modeling Clay’, among others. Exceptionally during this period, the Maker Space will not promote editions of the Maker Livre project.
Activities exploring the exhibition galleries and the games ‘Sensory Memory’, ‘Who Am I?’, ‘Knowledge Hunt’, and ‘The Weight You Carry’ will also be offered. The game sessions will occur from Friday to Sunday, always at 3 PM, in the entrance hall and the first-floor hall of the museum.
Tickets to participate in the programming will be distributed 30 minutes before each start, at the information desk located at the museum’s main entrance.
Connecting Art, Science, Technology, and Lots of Fun During the Vacation at SESI Lab
Since its inauguration in November 2022, more than 248,000 visitors have experienced the 100% interactive museum. The iconic building designed by Oscar Niemeyer during the construction of Brasília is now a hub for art, science, technology, and education for all ages. The space is an initiative of the Social Service of Industry (SESI), in partnership with the National Service of Industrial Learning (SENAI), promoting the connection between artistic, scientific, and technological actions, in collaboration with industry and society.
SESI Lab features around 8,000 square meters of built area dedicated to exhibition, creative, and maker spaces, interdisciplinary rooms, an LED panel covering 84 square meters, a café, and a concept store. Combined with 33,000 square meters of revitalized green areas, in partnership with the Government of the Federal District, featuring native species of the Cerrado, interactive installations, and an outdoor amphitheater for shows, events, and other cultural activities.
