Ituran survey shows a drop in incidents against pickups in São Paulo, but points to a change in the crime profile, with an increase in thefts, a change in the leadership of the most targeted models, and a greater concentration of records in Greater São Paulo.
The thefts and robberies of pickups fell in the state of São Paulo in the first quarter of 2026, while thefts came to represent 90.7% of cases, according to a survey by Ituran released by Jornal do Carro, from Estadão.
Between January and March 2026, the tracking company recorded 1,404 incidents involving this type of vehicle, compared to 1,592 records in the same period of 2025, which corresponds to a reduction of 188 cases in the annual comparison.
Despite the drop in total volume, the distribution by type of crime changed in the analyzed period, with a greater share of thefts, a modality in which the vehicle is taken without direct confrontation with the driver.

Compared to the first quarter of 2025, the share of robberies fell from 12.5% to 9.26%, according to the survey, while thefts came to concentrate the majority of occurrences recorded in the state.
Saveiro takes the lead among the most targeted pickups
The Volkswagen Saveiro took first place in the ranking of pickups with the most theft and robbery records in São Paulo in the first quarter of 2026, totaling 274 incidents in the period analyzed by Ituran.
Next, the Fiat Strada, which led the list in the same period of 2025, fell to second position after a reduction of 136 cases, ending the first three months of this year with 266 incidents in the state.
Third place went to the Fiat Toro, with 235 complaints, followed by the Toyota Hilux, which dropped from second to fourth position after falling from 259 to 171 incidents between the two compared periods.
With this variation, the top of the ranking now mainly includes compact and mid-sized pickups, while the Hilux, classified among the medium-sized, showed a decrease in the number of records compared to the first quarter of 2025.
Even so, models from different ranges and proposals remain among the most cited in the survey, which shows that the incidents were not restricted to a single category of pickup in the state of São Paulo.
Thefts advance and robberies lose ground in statistics
The high participation of thefts is one of the main data points of the survey, because it shows that most occurrences did not involve direct confrontation with the driver, but records where the vehicle was taken without reported confrontation.
This breakdown changes the distribution of occurrences by type, as thefts accounted for nine out of ten cases recorded during the period, while robberies were below 10% of the total reported by Ituran.
Although they lost participation in the survey, robberies remained in the statistical breakdown, with 9.26% of cases in the first quarter of 2026, according to data attributed to the tracking company.
The predominance of thefts also helps to contextualize the times and places mentioned in the study, as the analysis gathers occurrences recorded in different cities, neighborhoods, and times of the day in the state of São Paulo.
Older pickups concentrate the largest volume of cases
The survey also shows a significant difference according to the age of the vehicle, with fewer records among pickups up to two years old and a higher concentration in intermediate or older age ranges.
Pickups up to two years old had 131 occurrences in the first quarter of 2026, the lowest volume among the age ranges reported in the study released by Ituran.
The highest number of records was for vehicles five to ten years old, which totaled 429 occurrences, closely followed by pickups two to five years old, responsible for 426 cases in the same period.
Also appearing at a high level is the range of models over ten years old, which gathered 412 complaints, according to the data presented in the survey on pickup thefts and robberies in São Paulo.
The division by age shows that the occurrences reached different vehicle profiles, from more recent models to pickups with more time in circulation, without exclusive concentration on either younger or older vehicles.
Greater São Paulo concentrates almost 60% of occurrences
In the geographical distribution, Greater São Paulo accounted for 59.9% of the occurrences of pickup thefts and robberies recorded in the state in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Ituran survey.
In absolute numbers, there were 841 cases in the metropolitan region, within a universe of 1,404 occurrences recorded by the tracking company between January and March of this year.
The city of São Paulo leads among the cities, with 603 records, a number higher than that of other locations mentioned in the survey on crimes involving pickups in the state of São Paulo.
Campinas ranked second, with 71 occurrences, while Ribeirão Preto occupied third place, with 62 records, within the municipal breakdown presented by Ituran in the first quarter of 2026.
Although most cases are concentrated in the capital and its metropolitan region, the ranking also includes cities in the interior, indicating records outside Greater São Paulo during the analyzed period.
Tatuapé and Vila Mariana lead in the São Paulo capital
Within the city of São Paulo, the neighborhoods of Tatuapé, in the East Zone, and Vila Mariana, in the South Zone, appear at the top of the survey, each with 32 occurrences involving pickups in the first quarter of 2026.
The two neighborhoods surpassed the Rural Zone in the reported breakdown, according to the disclosed data, and took the lead among the locations with the most records in the municipality of São Paulo.
In addition to belonging to different regions of the capital, Tatuapé and Vila Mariana have distinct urban profiles but appear tied in the number of occurrences reported by Ituran from January to March 2026.
As the survey gathers records of occurrences, the numbers indicate the points with the highest volume accounted for in the analyzed breakdown, without detailing specific circumstances of each case or conditions of each street.
Thursday has the highest number of records
Thursday was the day with the most occurrences of pickup theft and robbery in São Paulo in the first quarter of 2026, with 259 records, according to the data gathered by Ituran.
The survey also points to a significant concentration between Tuesday and Thursday, an interval that gathered a substantial portion of the occurrences and placed midweek among the periods with the highest volume of records.
In addition to distribution by day, the breakdown by time shows a predominance of the nighttime period, responsible for 417 cases, followed by the early morning hours, which gathered 317 records in the state.
With this data, the survey presents a scenario of decline in the total number of pickup thefts and robberies in São Paulo, accompanied by a greater share of thefts and concentration of cases in certain models, regions, and times.
