Free Government Initiative Expands Positions in Cybersecurity and Offers Stipend of R$ 3 Thousand Per Month for Participants in Practical Phase; Program Combines Technical Training, Online Classes, and Real Challenges.

The Hackers do Bem, a free initiative from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) executed by the National Research and Educational Network (RNP), has opened 25,000 new positions for training in cybersecurity.

The program includes pathways ranging from leveling to basic and offers, in the final stage, a monthly stipend of R$ 3 thousand during the Technological Residency, conducted remotely.

Since 2024, more than 36,000 participants have obtained certification nationwide.

Training in Cybersecurity from Basic to Advanced

The goal of the initiative is to expand the training of qualified professionals in digital security, an area that, according to the MCTI, has a labor shortage in the country.

The content is structured in five stages: leveling, basic, fundamental, specialization, and residency.

Classes are online, taught by the Higher School of Networks (ESR), and include practical activities and interactive exercises.

The teaching model combines technical fundamentals with supervised practices, allowing students to gradually advance to more specialized levels.

Growth in Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals

According to the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Report by Fortinet, the global market has a shortage of about 4 million qualified professionals in the field.

This lack of specialists, according to the study, drives the creation of public and private programs aimed at accelerated training in digital security.

For the MCTI, the expansion of free and certified courses is one of the strategies to reduce the deficit and increase the security of public and corporate systems in Brazil.

Structure of Learning Pathways

The training path starts with introductory content on hardware, networks, and programming logic, followed by subjects on cryptography, cloud computing, best development practices, and threat detection.

At each completed stage, participants receive a official certification recognized by the RNP.

According to the MCTI, this process facilitates the professional integration of new talents into the technology and digital security market.

Technological Residency with a Stipend of R$ 3 Thousand

The final phase, called Technological Residency, places participants in front of real cybersecurity challenges at the RNP Presence Points across the country.

The selected students receive a monthly stipend of R$ 3 thousand for six months, with supervision from specialists and performance monitoring.

According to the program’s coordination, this stage aims to provide a practical experience close to the professional routine of security analysts and technicians.

Partnerships and Support for Participants

Hackers do Bem is funded by the MCTI, within the Priority Program in Computer Science (PPI) of Softex, and executed in partnership with SENAI-SP.

The project also maintains the Hackers do Bem Hub, a digital environment that connects students, teachers, and public and private organizations interested in recruiting professionals in the field.

According to the RNP, the space serves for knowledge exchange and opportunity dissemination, contributing to the employability of graduates.

Target Audience and Participation Criteria

The courses are free and open to individuals of any background.

The initial stages, leveling and basic, do not require prior knowledge in technology.

Advancement to advanced modules depends on performance in internal assessments.

To enter the Technological Residency, candidates undergo a selection process, which considers obtained certifications, involvement in challenges, and adherence to the technical needs of RNP projects.

Market Situation and Perspectives for the Sector

Data from the Brazilian Association of Information Technology and Communication Companies (Brasscom) indicate that Brazil is expected to demand more than 530,000 new technology professionals by 2025, a number that includes functions related to information security.

Industry experts state that free and rapidly executed training programs, like Hackers do Bem, help reduce the gap and expand access to technology careers in regions outside major centers.

Study Routine and Online Practical Challenges

Online activities include video lectures, simulations, and practical exercises that replicate security incidents.

According to the ESR, students are guided by instructors and can participate in challenges that simulate real situations, such as vulnerability analysis and incident response.

The certificates obtained throughout the pathways are cumulative and can be presented in selection processes for positions such as junior security analyst, support technician with a focus on security, and digital governance assistant.

Results and Impact of the Hackers do Bem Program

Since its launch, Hackers do Bem has recorded over 36,000 certificates issued and continuous expansion of the number of positions.

The MCTI highlights that the initiative aims to democratize access to training in digital security and create a national talent base to work on strategic projects.

According to the RNP, the new 25,000 positions are expected to meet the growing demand of 2025, especially in companies that have adopted stricter data protection policies.

How to Enroll in the Free Cybersecurity Course

Applications are open and free. Interested individuals must fill out the form available on the official Hackers do Bem website, select the desired pathway, and follow the class schedule.

The recommendation from the coordination is to start with the leveling course and advance based on performance in subsequent stages.

Those who reach the Technological Residency may receive a monthly stipend of R$ 3 thousand during the practical semester.
