The Toyota Factory in the City of Indaiatuba, in the State of São Paulo, Will Receive an Investment of 1 Billion Reais to Start the Mass Production of This Unprecedented Line of Hybrid Cars in Brazil
Toyota Motor Corp from Japan announced on Wednesday that it will begin building a new version of the Corolla sedan in Brazil, which will run on electricity, ethanol, and gas, making it the first vehicle of its kind in the world. Brazil, the largest car producer in South America, has largely resisted the shift to electric and hybrid vehicle production, which has swept through more developed markets.
Some of Toyota’s competitors in Brazil, including General Motors and Volkswagen AG, have said they will import electric vehicles but do not plan to produce them domestically.

Toyota said in a statement that the decision to build the Corolla in Brazil was partly thanks to a package of tax incentives approved by the country’s Congress, known as Rota 2030. Unlike most markets around the world, ethanol is a common fuel for cars in Brazil. Toyota already imports the hybrid Prius to Brazil. More information directly on Toyota’s website here.
