Model Presented in Italy Combines 2.8 Turbo Diesel Engine with 48V Micro-Hybrid System, Promising Efficiency and Power.
Toyota, a reference in the automotive market, recently revealed the world’s first hybrid Toyota Hilux in Italy. The pickup truck uses a 48V micro-hybrid system integrated with a 2.8 turbo diesel engine, delivering 204 hp.
Expected to arrive in Brazil in 2025, the model promises to transform the segment of pickup trucks by combining efficiency, power, and off-road capability.
How the Micro-Hybrid System Works in the Toyota Hilux Hybrid

The 48V micro-hybrid system is the major innovation. It includes an electric motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery, and an electric converter. These components work together to enhance the pickup’s performance, adding up to 16.3 hp of power and 6.62 kgfm of torque to the engine during acceleration.

5 used cars launched 15 years ago that are still worth it starting from R$ 30,000: models with up to 147 hp, consumption of up to 13 km/l, trunk space of 526 liters, and a pickup capable of carrying more than 1 ton remain valued in 2026
Additionally, the system incorporates regenerative brakes, which reuse the energy generated during braking, ensuring a smoother and more economical ride. The compact layout allows the battery, weighing only 7.6 kg, to be installed under the rear seats without compromising interior space.
Innovative Features and Robust Design
The Toyota Hilux hybrid has not lost its distinctive characteristics. The model maintains a towing capacity of 3,500 kg, a payload of up to 1,000 kg, and a ground clearance of 310 mm.
New features like the Multi-Terrain Select system offer six driving modes: Sand, Mud, Rock, Dirt, Snow, and Auto. These modes automatically adjust the vehicle for different terrain conditions, optimizing the off-road experience.
In terms of technology, the Hilux hybrid comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, Smart Connect multimedia system, and JBL sound with nine speakers, ensuring safety and comfort for occupants.
When Will We See the Toyota Hilux Hybrid in Brazil?
Still without an exact date, the expectation is that the hybrid Hilux in Brazil will be launched in 2025, following the trends of models already available in Europe and Australia.
Toyota believes that electrifying its best-selling model could attract both fans of the Hilux’s robustness and consumers looking for greater energy efficiency.
The Brazilian market is increasingly receptive to hybrid vehicles, and the arrival of the Toyota Hilux hybrid reinforces the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Keep an eye out, as this pickup promises to be a game-changer in the segment!
