The importance of the Circular Economy in the automotive sector
Since the biggest generation of Used or Contaminated Lubricating Oil – OLUC, takes place in the target segment of the event, Lwart Soluções Ambientais will be present to promote greater awareness about the appropriate disposal of this waste among participating companies.
A 100% Brazilian company, Lwart brings to FENABRAVE a practical example of a circular economy involving OLUC, a waste with highly polluting potential if discarded incorrectly. Lwart is the only one in Latin America to re-refine OLUC and produce Group II base oils, which are recognized for their high degree of purity and quality.
Lwart: leader in the OLUC recycling economy nationwide
Furthermore, Lwart has the largest share in the national market in the collection of OLUC, with a significant coverage in the Brazilian territory, covering numerous dealerships that will also be present at FENABRAVE.
The importance of company capillarity in collection is reflected in the environmental impact of OLUC, since, according to AMBIOLUC, an entity representing the sector, 'a single liter of used lubricating oil can contaminate 1 million liters of water', denoting a severe environmental impact due to its high capacity to contaminate soil, water and air.
'Lwart will be at FENABRAVE presenting its expertise in transforming used oil into pure base oil again, adopting exemplary circular economy practices and demonstrating the positive impact on sustainability. Our results highlight the benefits that OLUC's circularity brings to the environment', comments Rodrigo Maia, director of Collection and Logistics at Lwart Soluções Ambientais.
Impressive results and impact on foreign exchange savings
In 2023, the company's production reached 176 million liters of GII base oils, marking an increase of 5,3% compared to the previous year, this being the biggest trademark by the company, which holds a 44,9% share of the basics market among re-refiners, according to the ANP. This production volume comes from the 222 million liters of OLUC collected in 2023, representing a record for Lwart. This performance means removing hazardous, highly polluting waste from circulation and reinserting it into the production chain, generating value and meeting the needs of the national market, which still depends on imports.
Lwart Soluções Ambientais increased the volume of OLUC collected by 19% in relation to 2022, attributing this growth to intensified collection operations in 2023. It is worth noting that re-refining contributes to the reduction of imports of this mineral oil, guaranteeing annual currency savings to Brazil, strengthening the Brazilian manufacturing industry, generating jobs and encouraging sustainable development.
Regulation and enforcement
Brazilian legislation stipulates that all OLUC must be collected and sent for recycling through re-refining and categorically prohibits the use of waste as fuel, burning or for any other purpose.
