More Than 240 Retirees from Teresina Did Not Take the Life Test and May Have Benefit Suspended. INSS Warns of Scams and Reinforces the Importance of Keeping Data Updated
Getting retirement from the INSS is a long process full of steps. However, even after securing the benefit, the care does not stop. Keeping data updated and taking the Life Test are obligations of those who receive. Ignoring this can lead to headaches: the benefit may be suspended or even canceled.
Alert in Teresina: 241 May Lose the Benefit
A clear example of this occurred in Teresina (PI). The city hall issued an important alert for those who receive from the Public Servants’ Pension Institute of the Municipality (IPMT).
In February, many retirees and pensioners were summoned for the Life Test. The problem? More than half did not show up or resolve the issue. Now, 241 people may be without the benefit in the coming days.

How the INSS Life Test Works
The Life Test has been mandatory since 1991. As the name suggests, it allows verification that the beneficiary is alive. For many years, it was necessary to go in person to a bank or an INSS agency to carry out the procedure. This process created queues, travel, and often inconveniences for the elderly.
But that changed. Since 2023, the INSS has started to conduct the Life Test automatically. Now, the system cross-references information with other public databases, such as voting records, banking transactions, and even vaccination.
This new model makes life easier for many beneficiaries, who no longer need to leave home to prove they are alive.
Even with the change, attention is required. If the system does not find transactions that confirm the beneficiary’s life, they may be summoned to complete the process manually. If there is no response, the benefit is at risk.
Careful with Scams that Use the Name of the INSS
Another important point is to stay alert against scams. The INSS has already warned that criminals are posing as agency employees. They call or visit retirees, asking for photos and documents, claiming to be for the Life Test. It’s a scam. The INSS does not make this type of contact and does not send anyone to the beneficiary’s home.
The recommendation is clear: do not share information, do not accept suspicious visits, and if in doubt, contact the official INSS channel. This way, the beneficiary avoids problems and ensures that their benefit continues to arrive every month.
