An Incredible Situation Came to Light When a Woman Discovered That For 20 Years She Used a Real Hand Grenade as a Hammer to Nail Objects at Home

A 90-year-old woman in China spent two decades using a hand grenade as a household tool. Unaware of the danger, she hammered nails, cracked walnuts, and even ground peppers with the explosive device.

Unexpected Encounter in the Field

The elderly woman, identified only by her surname Qin, found the object on her farm in Xiangyang city, Hubei province.

She thought it was just a piece of metal with a wooden handle. She believed it would serve as a hammer and took it home.

For 20 years, she used it for all sorts of tasks. “I’ve been using this at home to grind red chili, crack walnuts, and hammer nails,” Qin calmly stated in a video that went viral in China on June 23.

The grenade’s appearance showed signs of wear: the wooden handle was smooth and shiny, and the metal part was full of dents. Even so, nobody suspected anything all that time.

Discovery During a Demolition

The truth only came to light when a team of workers was demolishing Qin’s house. One of the men noticed the strange object and alerted the police.

The Huangbao police station sent a specialized team that confirmed: it was a Chinese Type 67 hand grenade.

The device, despite years of use and abuse, was still active. To avoid any risks, it was safely destroyed by the authorities.

Luck Was on Her Side

There was speculation about the grenade being just a training model without explosives. But the police ruled out that possibility. The model was real. The only possible explanation for the safe outcome: luck.

Surprise took over social media. Users on Weibo, a popular platform in China, commented with relief and humor. “It’s amazing that Grandma Qin used the hand grenade as a hammer for over 20 years without ever pulling the fuse out of curiosity,” wrote a user.

Another joked: “Even hand grenades have principles and don’t explode on kind-hearted elderly people.”

According to Chinese outlets, the grenade was so damaged that part of the fuse was exposed. If Qin had pulled it, the result would have been tragic. Despite that, she continued her simple routine, never realizing the risk she was carrying in her hand.
