The University of São Paulo, through its Rectory, announced the opening of registrations for two free Extension and improvement courses offered in person at the institution’s headquarters, covering themes related to territories and urban history. The courses with open spots are Between Villages and Ruins: Crossing Bodies and Territories in the Multispecies City and The Uses of Archives in Urban History Writing, both in-person.

The first course explores the growing presence of indigenous peoples in cities and their social impact. An analysis of human sciences and the expansion of science will be initiated. The importance of public policies that respect ways of life in peripheral areas of São Paulo will be discussed.

The course will culminate with the cosmopolitics of the Guarani Mbya in the Indigenous Land of Jaraguá, highlighting their vision of a city that becomes a forest, rich in biodiversity.

The second course addresses the diversity of archives used in urban history, mapping the renewal of this field and its relationship with different types of documentation. The structuring of archives and the challenges this poses to researchers will be explored. Additionally, practices of public history, such as the formation of community collections and exhibitions, and their contribution to urban history will be analyzed.

The classification of beneficiaries will be through an Electronic Lottery scheduled to take place on September 2, 2024, through the university’s registration platform.
