Discover How to Validate Your Degree and Register with the Engineers’ Board (OEP) to Work in Portugal
If you are part of the Brazilian engineers community and dream of migrating to Portugal, have you considered validating your degree in the European country to continue working without obstacles in your profession, but at a new address? This journey starts with unraveling the step-by-step to register with the Engineers’ Board (OEP), according to the website Engenharia 360. Check it out!
First of all, it is worth emphasizing that there is currently in effect the so-called “Friendship Protocol” (Reciprocity Agreement of September 29, 2015) between CONFEA of Brazil and the Order of Engineers of Portugal. This agreement allows engineers with Brazilian degrees and an active professional card not to go through the traditional diploma recognition process in Portugal.
However, you still need to meet certain specific requirements, including being up to date with the CONFEA/CREA system, having completed a degree with a minimum workload of 3600 hours in Brazil, and possessing residency and NIF (Número Individual Fiscal) in Portuguese territory.

Procedures for Degree Registration with the Engineers’ Board
According to the Friendship Protocol, the procedures for degree registration both with the Order of Engineers of Portugal and with CONFEA/CREA are quite similar. After submitting all the necessary documents and paying the registration fees and annual dues, the validation of the registration usually takes about 30 days.
The required documents for degree registration with the Order of Engineers of Portugal include a properly completed official document, notarized copy of the professional card, notarized copy of the passport, color photograph, proof of residence in Portugal, copy of the Citizen Card, and NIF.
After gathering all the documents, access the OEP website, fill out the online application, schedule an appointment at the District Delegation of the OE, present the original documents, the copies, and pay the fees. Wait for the analysis and issuance of the Portuguese professional card.
Opportunities for Brazilian Engineers in Portugal
Once admitted to the Order of Engineers, you will have the same rights and duties as your Portuguese colleagues. Portugal is a country of many growing opportunities for engineers, with even greater demand for qualified professionals.
Experts say there is a shortage of up to 20,000 engineers in the country, which is why so many Brazilian engineers have sought this destination for their successful international career. Portugal is a country with a mild climate, stunning landscapes, and a rich culture, making it an excellent option for your next professional journey.
