Federal Institute Offers 120 Openings in Free Professional Training Courses for Women in Salgueiro and Serrita
Women aged 16 and over who live in social vulnerability in the municipalities of Salgueiro and Serrita, in the Pernambuco hinterland, will have a new opportunity to qualify professionally. The Salgueiro campus of the Federal Institute of Pernambuco (IFSertãoPE) has 120 openings available for free courses for professional training, through the Mulheres Mil program.
The initiative is the result of a partnership with the Salgueiro City Hall, the Legislative School of Salgueiro Professor Orlando Parahym, AMUSA (Women’s Association of Salgueiro), the Vocational Technology Center (CVT), and the Serrita City Hall.
Free Courses at the Federal Institute with Monthly Stipend of R$ 640.00
The openings at the Federal Institute are distributed among four courses focusing on entrepreneurial activities and income generation: Sewing Machine Operator and Overlock (30 openings), Manicurist and Pedicurist (30 openings), Baker (30 openings), and Snack Maker (30 openings).

All training will be conducted in person, with classes offered in the afternoon, evening, or both, depending on the selected area.
Class locations will vary according to the course, aiming to better accommodate the logistics for students.
In addition to technical training, participants will be entitled to a scholarship in the amount of R$ 640.00, paid in monthly installments, provided they maintain at least 75% attendance in activities.

Applications remain open until April 21. Interested women can apply online or in person at the Salgueiro campus of the Federal Institute, located at BR-232, Km 508, in the rural area of the city.
Service will be available on weekdays, from 8 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1 PM to 5 PM.

Eligible participants include cisgender women, transgender women, and travestis who are in a situation of social vulnerability, risk, or poverty, with low education level (incomplete elementary education between 1st and 5th grade).
The program also includes those responsible for children or family members, victims of violence, or in contexts of racial, ethnic, or gender inequality.
The list of selected candidates will be announced on April 23, and classes are expected to begin in May.
IFSertãoPE: Education That Transforms the Hinterland
The Salgueiro campus of the Federal Institute of Pernambuco is one of the most important centers for technical and higher education in the region.
Since its inauguration in 2010, the institution has offered free, high-quality education within a wide infrastructure, featuring 12 laboratories, nine classrooms, a library, auditorium, cafeteria, videoconference rooms, and medical and psychological support units.
Currently, the campus offers courses in Integrated High School, Subsequent, Proeja, Undergraduate, Lato Sensu Postgraduate, and Professional Master’s (Stricto Sensu), serving students from Salgueiro and six other municipalities in the microregion: Cedro, Mirandiba, Parnamirim, São José do Belmonte, Serrita, and Verdejante.
The initiative reinforces IFSertãoPE’s commitment to professional training for women, promoting financial autonomy, social inclusion, and women’s empowerment.
The free courses offered by the Federal Institute are a concrete response to the demands for equity in access to education and the job market.
