Nova Lima, March 19, 2020 – The State of Minas, through the State Department of Health, will allocate, in the coming days, R$ 5.24 million previously transferred by Vale, to reinforce the efforts to combat COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

In March 2019, the company transferred the funds to the State for the preparation of a study on the risks of tailings to human health. However, after joint assessments, the company itself took responsibility for carrying out this study, which is still ongoing. The funds previously allocated will therefore be used for the renovation, improvement of infrastructure, and increase in the number of ICU beds at the Eduardo de Menezes Hospital in Belo Horizonte.
The funds will be used to construct a new wing for the hospital, in addition to its equipping. The space will have 12 rooms with one bed each (equipped with an ante-room and an accessible bathroom), a control room for access to the isolation rooms, a nursing station, and medical prescription services, among other improvements. The Medical Outpatient Clinic will be equipped, among other items, with a room for coordinating Nursing services, in addition to four new medical offices.

This funding is part of Vale’s effort to repair the damage caused to the State of Minas Gerais by the collapse of Dam I in Brumadinho, as well as its social commitment to assist the State in its mission to care for the people of Minas Gerais.
